I think we can open a new thread for this if it's really happening, the Mirror (I know) seem to think it is and if we get £22M + Sneijder that's a great deal, with Silva to come next week ? A brilliant transfer window this would be.

Real Madrid believe they will finally get their man when they return with an improved offer for Xabi Alonso this weekend.

The Mirror understands that the Spanish giants have reopened talks with Liverpool and are ready to increase their bid to around £32million.

Alonso wants the deal concluded before he is due to return to Anfield on Sunday, prompting both parties to intensify negotiations.

Madrid previously offered £22m for the Spanish midfielder and were reluctant to go beyond that figure for a player priced at just £15m last summer.

But the deal has been resurrected after Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez indicated he would be willing to listen to proposals that would give him £22m cash, plus a player in part-exchange. Even though Spurs are close to agreeing a deal for young Real striker Alvaro Negredo, the Bernabeu club have offered him as part of their Alonso proposals, along with Dutch international midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Benitez will do business if he believes that either player is priced at the right level, giving him the £35m which he believes reflects Alonso's current worth.

The Anfield boss won't accept anything less because he knows how costly it will be to replace the Spaniard in his midfield engine room.

Benitez wants to make a significant profit in replacing Alonso, to allow him to pursue Valencia winger David Silva.

With transfer activity gathering pace at Anfield, insiders within the club suggest that if a deal can be concluded to sell Alonso at the right price over the weekend, the club will try to wrap up a £20m deal for Silva next week.

Talks have been ongoing for some months, but the player has now returned from a holiday and it is thought a fee could be thrashed out in the early part of next week allowing Silva to sign by Wednesday.

I think I'd be satisfied with that also. Bit gutted about all this though.

I like Sneijder a lot. I just hope he's past his injury issues and the attitude concerns are wide of the mark.

Essentially, I'm hoping for Xabi for Silva (22 mill) + Sneijder ... That works for me.

We also get a really good set piece taker ...

When all the threads regarding Xabi merge, it will be The One Thread that rules all threads.

I'm gonna start an Adios Xabi thread you guys, you know, where we can say goodbye to him and all farewells.

Alonso for 22 mill + Negredo + Sneijder?

That's not a bad deal.

I read it as plus either.

Can Sneijder take on the role Xabi had in our team?
I always thought he played further up the pitch.

If we sign Silva, either Babel or Riera might be offloaded. Or will Rafa use Babel as a striker? Surely we dont need 3 left wingers?
If Babel is utilized upfront, at least the Crow need to leave.

Hold your powder for now lad.

There's no certainty we'll get Silva, though

But as deals go, £22M + Sneijder + Negredo is a good deal.

Probably worth around £40M.

I wouldn't mind having these problems if it meant we have signed Silva and Sneijder. It would be very hard for Babel to get a look in so I could see him leaving.

But I don't want to merge threads 🙁

Id be happy with Sneijder if we can convince him to ditch his shoot on sight every time hes within 30 yards of goal policy.

I don't think we can get them both + £22m you silly billy.

Sneijder + £22m (Silva possibly) for a 28 year old Alonso would be an exceptional bit of dealing for the club overall.

However I don't see how Madid would have gone from a reported bid of £22m to £22m + a £15m rated Sneijder, seems pretty sensationalist.

I didnt mention merging threads.

I just dont think you should start a goodbye thread until he's actually confirmed as being gone, strangely enough.

Sneijder's past injury record is a worry.
[/quote]

Is it anything like Aquilani's?

Sneijder has played 60 games in 2 years for Real, scoring 11 goals.

Thats not a worry..

I think it is either or not both.
The thing is with all part ex stuff, its simple saying it, but do either/or want to move here?
I would like to think so , but they might want a little bit of input. Would Real have approached them first about the idea. Would we have an idea of personal terms?
It sounds like a Real ruse to get us to the negotiating table, still Rafa is not a dunce when it comes to being sharp.
