I think regardless of whether we sign silva, Riera will start the first game of the season on the left. Rafa will see him as a solid, disciplined (and improving) player and Silva will likely be blooded gently into the team covering any of the 3 positions behind Torres.

Someone asked the question about how Real can possibly offer 22m and then suddenly include that plus 2 of their players. The answer is in the original article - We will not be able replace Xabi - thats the problem just like United cannot replace Ronaldo. Xabi is a throw back to the past - the last player like him in this day and age was that Argentinian that played for Betis I think. The creative controller/holding player is very rare - its hard to find both qualties.
Ok - this is going to sound a little racist and all - but I was hoping to get a muscle bound black player to sit beside Masha. I think those matches against Chelsea in the CL showed a weakness of our midfield in that although very gifted they are not physically able to deal with the modern dynamic black players who are fast, mobile and quick - we need someone with ability to do the simple passes, pace and strength - Viera type.
