Skrtel

My point was not that Skrtel played poor or that he aint able to win in the air the fair way. He can if he tried. So why the fuck ask the ref to give a penalty by holding, dragging pulling?? It will cost us. And I dont like to see coward play like that. I hate it. t legitmize others doing it to us. To Torres. It is false play and there were a few times yesterday he just hang in their shirts looking lost. It is against West Fucking Bromwich. For all I know it is zonal marking gone giving him a headache, but that is not manmarking and it will cost us penalties against! You imagine he will get away with that away at Old Trafford?

Hello to man-2-man marking as opposed to zonal.

As another poster stated, the likes of Carvalho, Terry etc have been doing it for years.
So it is fair play then?

when the new left back arrives, you'd hope agger moves to center back and martin moves to the bench, he's a decent center back but that's about it, his positional sense is poor and he still dives into tackles rather than staying on his feet as long as possible.

I agree. Skrtel is stronger and quicker than Agger but Agger is a more error-free defender.

Old Trafford?

SKrtel would just look at Duckface and the ref would blow for a penalty.

Skrtel and Agger are both good
You're like the Boutros Boutros-Ghali of scm.

What I like about Skrtel is he doesn't have an agenda to ruin Lucas Leiva's game and career.

Watching Kuyt, Jovanovic, Gerrard and Carragher destroy the former Brazilan footballer of the year makes my blood boil.

Didn't see the game (I kept up my 100% record of us winning if I sleep during the game) but is what skrtel did any different to what carra does week in week out?

He's played well the first few games, and rightly our cb partnership currently should be skrtel and carra.

Skrtel's our only one with anything even close to pace as well if that matters.

Did you write that yourself or C+P if from Squawk?

Skrtel hasn't developed the way i'd expected.. if a decent offer came in i'd sell due to Agger/Carra's availablity but I wouldn't be actively looking to get rid seeing as Ca-Ag clearly can't play 50 games a season..

Skrtel and Agger are, sadly, nowhere near as good as many of us expected/ wanted them to be, and I doubt they will ever form a successful partnership at Liverpool because both have too many fundamental flaws in their game

And a lack of aerial ability that means as a partnership it leaves us lacking.

Yes, but Skrtel doesn't solve this as it hardly an 'aerial specialist' himself.. Soto for the win!

I know. Hence why I said the partnership didnt have aerial ability.

It's fair play if the referee allows it, which was the case yesterday. If other sides (who win titles) are doing it and not being penalised then we should too. The same way, if a striker is in the box and a defender sticks his leg out, should they hurdle it or fall over it for the penalty. We've already won the Fair play league before, I want the Pemier league.

As a player I suppose I would prefer Agger, but he's - at best - a very poor man's Hansen

It says a lot that a 32 year old Carra and 36 year old Hyypia are still miles better defenders than either Skrtel or Hyypia

I hope we see big improvements from both this season, they need it

to be fair carra and sami are two of the best defenders 'ever' for liverpool and sami in perticualar has the best positional sense I've ever seen in a defender.

I think the issue yesterday wasn't that he was doing but who blatant it was, although loads of defenders do it they aren't as obvious.

martin's positional sense is just plain wrong, you see it when he marks players (he was lucky not to give a away a penalty, yesterday) and when he goes in for challenges (like the penalty he DID give away v city) and for fuck's sakes martin, STAY ON YOUR FEET!

Oh right, I must have missed the bit where Agger proved his capacity as a fully reliable, infallible centre back.

Oh.

Whereas Agger's ability to stay on his feet and read the game so exceptionally allows the likes of Adam Johnson to walk past him, at least he didn't dive in eh?

I don't get the point you are making, marky? if you think I think agger is some amazing defender, you're wrong, I just think he's better than skrtel, that's good enough for me, especially when it's 'carra +1'.

I think he reads the game better, is a better header of the ball and can competently bring the ball out of defense. anyway, we'll soon see which of the two roy rates higher in the very next league game with the new left back almost certainly starting, meaning a straight choice of skrtel or agger dropping to the bench.
