Skrtel

If a player wants to go, sell for as much as possible. The club are in the driving seat with players who have contracts with more than 12 months. Citeh considering 20M, tell them its 25M. If they want Skrtel, they'll pay.

Yeah I jumped on the Tomkins bandwagon after the play off final, looks a very good prospect. I still think we'd end up going after caulker though, who I rate as well.
Caulker could be a real gem but I have a feeling that Spurs have got long term plans for him. They lent him out for the last 3 seasons, each time at a higher level until he made his EPL debut for Swansea this season. He's still only 20 but I reckon Spurs see him as a long term prospect and will not lend him out this season but introduce him gradually into the first team.

Yeah, I can't see them selling him, unless the Mancs come in, in which case they'll bend over like always.

I'm more worried about the Mancs getting Tomkins but I'm hoping that their investment in Smalling and Jones in recent times might make them think they're covered for young CB's. If I had to predict which of Smalling, Jones or Tomkins will go on to be the better CB I'd plump for Tomkins.

I think he's superb Fabio, as I mentioned, he reminds me a lot of Tony Adams, he's a very dominant player at both ends of the pitch, he reads the game superbly, he's quick enough, decent in possession and very strong aerially.

I think he'll be an England regular very soon.

We'd need to buy first, then sell though.

Mate in work who's a big Hammers fan has been singing his praises for a good while now.

So you'd sell Skrtel and leave us with (to paraphrase your words) 'an injury prone CB who won't play half of the season', leaving us with Coates, Kelly and Carra as our CBs ? Brilliant, absolutely stunning logic.

And you don't see how petulantly arrogant you are being in assuming you have it all sussed out do you ?

Are you forgetting about that 20m that would be sitting in our pocket ready to buy someone else too ?

I do have it all sussed out

To Modo: the year we finished 2nd, Insua played 13 games, as he got a run ahead of the injured Aurelio and shit Dossena.

The next year when he caused people like Avvy to characterise him as 'ponderous and shit' he played 44 games. He wasn't ready.

Ready or not Kelly isn't going to turn into a fat, slow shit full back who can pass the ball a bit.

Yeah but the point wasn't about him playing fullback, it was about relying on him as a centre back, somewhere he's NEVER played at this level.

He'll be a quality centre back. There'll be a few mistakes in him at first though, cup runs at cb this season for me.

Skrtel single handedly saved us from ending up in a relegation battle last season ;we were that poor last season. He was our best player by far he even managed to score a couple despite having to defend like a possesed Bull covering left and right and center .I fail to believe people feel we could easily move him on and replace him with the likes of Caulker or Tomkins or Martin"I got picked ahead of Rio "Kelly.

Skrtel did all the defending himself and the attacking and he fought crime at night.
A certain Luis Suarez was just a passenger the entire season.

He was forced to be a passenger for the long ban he received .

Skrtel started last season the way he'd finished the previous one. Fucking terribly.

But he did get a lot better. Irreplaceable? Is he fuck.

No one is Irreplaceable ,but you don't go out to replace your better players with ones who are far less talented

I'd rather he stayed but who knows what the plan is in terms of replacements? And if he wants to get off and there's a load of money available it's not the worst situation ever. Losing Arbeloa for buttons was sad. Getting 20m for this big galoot would be sound.

Yep - Although keep that kind of talk on the 'hush hush' Woland - Some people on here are a little sensitive when it comes to Skrtel apparently.

"Some people are a bit sensitive". Some people don't want to see our player of the season sold. Some people don't want to break up one of the only shining lights from last season - the partnership, for the sake of having to go out and find a replacement and to then be left with a fantastic £10m to spend elsewhere, which we're sure to spend well.

No one's 'sensitive', it's called not wanting to sell your best players for a quick fix and what will inevitably end up being for the benefit of adding two second raters to the side. Have you learned nothing from the sale of Alonso, Mascherano and co? And before some bellend points it out, I'm not putting Skrtel (or Agger for that matter) in that tier of player, but we're talking about selling one of our better players while a load of overpaid dross clutters the side. It's a gamble and one we can't really afford to take.

Mark, don't be sensitive!😀

I'm not sure that we're looking for quick fixes. Our problem is that many of our top performers have had their heads turned or wanted moves for personal reasons eg. Owen, Alonso, Mascherano, Arbeloa, Luis Garcia, Torres, Ming etc. Now its more an issue of how to maximise price when they want to leave. We have not been short on takers.

While Liverpool is a world brand, we've lost our shine and attraction to young and upcoming players. The only players willing to sacrifice money to come play for us are usually lifelong supporters who have an emotional attachment to the club. Unfortunately, we will have to pay a premium for some players who are more critical to getting results than others.

I dont agree with that at all; there is quality out there who'd love to wear our shirt, we're just shit at finding it.

"In the press there have been rumours about my future," Skrtel said on his personal website.
"I would like to say that so far I have not received any specific offers and I have not been in talks with any club."
Skrtel is currently back in his homeland preparing for the new season, and he is convinced that the 2012/13 campaign will be a productive one for Liverpool - as they begin life under new boss Brendan Rodgers.
He said: "I'm looking forward to the new season very much and believe we will be well prepared for it and it will be better than the last one."
