Saint - appointing the King permanently would be a terrible idea, but I don't believe for one minute than anybody (the man himself included) would contemplate it anyway. Appointing him to tide us over until the right permanent appointment can be made, though, I would be quite happy with. He wouldn't be under the kind of pressure that sapped his spirit back in the day, the players would pick up on that, and I reckon everybody in and around the club would get a big lift.

Stu - one would think so, but Rafa's a very, very proud guy and may not want to wait until he's pushed out if he thinks that's going to happen. I wouldn't bet on him walking, but I don't think it's totally out of the question.

Some of the figures being mentioned are as high as 9/10mil JJ.
Rafa is off to Spain for a cushty job when he is done here.
He'll never have to set foot in Liverpool again.
He strikes me as the type of bloke who couldn't give two fucks what people think of him.
And to be honest, for that amount of money, I wouldn't either.

He seemed to be very keen to be involved in all the Hillsborough stuff though every April, although it could just be good PR of course.

Morning Vicar

Of the people already at the club only Kenny or Sammy Lee are realistic options (both obviously only in the short term).
I wonder if any of the Spanish coaches would also go if Benitez goes?

They could always bring Phil Thompson back. Again.

Black and white. Is that good news?

Well, I like cats so I'm going to say "yes" to that. 8)

Eh? He loves Liverpool and he loves the club. You can't take that away from him.

I've no doubt at all that Benitez loves Liverpool but that won't be enough to make him ready to walk away for nothing.

He has his pride and wants to protect his reputation so I doubt he'll want to do anything that might be seen as admitting failure.

I cant believe anyone would question his love for the club and the city.

I'd say Brendan is totally serious. Benitez clearly has a deep love for the club, its history and its supporters. He'll be paining a lot right now, even more so if he's sacked or feels that he has to walk.

Absolutely, and Houllier was the same, but it didn't stop everyone dragging his name through the mud.

It is for that reason that I still have sympathy for him. Doesn't mean I want him to stay as manager but I do feel sorry for the guy.

I think when it comes down to brass tax, he's not going to walk away from the job and more importantly the pay off.
I am sure he does love the city, club, people, etc etc but he won't let any of that stop him from receiving a huge load of wonga.
