Ryan Bertrand for £8 million?

I'd like to think we are developing a list of options to approach in Jan, but are also thinking that if Flanno keeps performing, then we won't need a replacement as Enrique will be back by Feb and having Enrique & Flanno to cover LB should be sufficient.

I haven't seen much of Bertrand to be honest but he seems like another to fall victim to Mourinho

Flanno has had one good game, but let's not pretend he's good enough to hold down a long term place in the side. Besides, the point is to have someone who can provide competition for Enrique, not play second fiddle to him.

I thought Cissoko was a left back. Did we not just buy him? Surely the idea is that he was bought as cover for Enrique. Enrique is unfit, so we use the guy we bought as cover. Or am I missing something?

We loaned him. I'm thinking BR has decided he's not so keen.

You can tell what Rodgers already thinks of him from putting Flanagan in ahead of him for the derby, he'll be jibbed off Sahin style in Jan if we get Bertrand or if Enrique is fit.

Bertrand's 24 and has played last then 30 top flight games. Was just wondering aren't there better options available at that price.

Just realized he signed a five-year contract worth £35,000 a week in September. Probably one of the reasons for the high valuation, besides being English, of course.

If he can be a long term fit, it's a smart signing. Short term cover, not so much.

At that price though, it's quite tempting. Significantly cheaper than most other established options, and has the room to grow into a very good player as well.

We'd be better served recalling Jack Robinson than getting Bertrand? Perhaps he was a little over hyped, but he was a big prospect a couple of years ago and seems to be doing well at Blackpool. If we can give him games, and he performs well enough to not be a liability defensively, the loan is redundant.

Thats actually a good idea. But I don't think Brendan rates him.

[article]"I never talk about any players of an opposing club," Rodgers told a press conference.

"The gossip and speculation around the football club both on and off the field is immense. I'll be sat here all day.

"I can only talk about Ryan because I know him very, very well. As a young man, as a young lad we worked with him at Chelsea.

"We brought him in from Gillingham, so he's had a terrific career. But that aside I wouldn't speak on any other players who have been linked, otherwise I'll be here all night."[/article]
