Roy Hodgson is a fucking cunt

Luck is a good thing, don't knock it.

Although, we've been on the other end of it, hand of God goal, Lampards over the line etc etc

Better to be lucky than good, a philosopher I can't remember, may have said.
I was just pointing it out as it wasn't mentioned among the other teams that got lucky against England. Home town decision and all that.

Yup, I read that Messi lost the ball more than any other player in La Liga. I've a feeling Suarez is right up there in the charts too.
The good thing for Barkley is that he'll likely have had Martinez on the phone telling him how boss he is and to keep it going, cause I think Martinez is the type of manager that does that.

However..
I'm probably in the minority here but I agree with Hodge podge. Not about him going public about it like a bellend but in the fact that Barkley tends to be far too greedy on many, many occasions - pretty much every time I've seen him play, though I didn't see the England game. He'll be a monster of a player if he can gain that bit of awareness the top players tend to have.

You probably are but i agree with you, Barkley has a lot to work on and refine in his game as do all young players, Hodgson needs to shut his trap though.

Ok, you seemed to have missed the point, England have managed to a win a shoot out, happy? one of the rare times something has gone Englands way.

Fuck knows how winning a shoot out has anything to do with a home decision though.

Spain had a perfectly good goal disallowed. I'm just trying to say that football fans tend to just remember the decisions/lucky bounce or whatever that go against them.

I feel sorry for Hodgson, or, more accurately, for the England manager. The media delight in creating a shitstorm over everything he does or says and yet these are the same people who will simply accept anything Mourinho and, before him Ferguson, says to them. I'm not really bothered about England, they'll do well to reach the quarter finals but I am worried about how our players might be targeted if the media decides they've been a disappointment, especially as our players make up a quarter of the squad.

Fair enough, honestly dont remember that, still there cant really be much of and argument that England are a lucky team.

Its an interesting game to bring up tbh and backs up the point i was making, generally Euro 96 is looked back on fondly where England done well and gave a good account of themselves, if England lose that penalty shoot out to Spain or lose during normal time then it takes on a completely different slant, it basically would have been seen as a big failure, win 1 penalty shoot out or get 1 bit of luck and it can massively change the perception of things, win 2 or 3 shoot outs and get a few decisions go your way in a few different tournaments and things would look so different.

To be honest the media in England plays a massive part in it. One win & the papers are full of 'we're going to win the world cup' but if they lose they're hounding the players & manager. If you live in northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales then you hear it from the radio, tv & it's in the papers. The media are the reason they want England to crash out asap, so they can then enjoy the rest of the tournament in peace.

Its a big football country ain't it, the media will always be full of football especially when England are at a tournament, doesn't mean their opinions are right or they speak for the people of this country though, the vast majority of what they say on anything is a pile of shite.

It's also the selectiveness (that's not a word but it should be) of the media.

Do you remember Beckham's free kick against Greece that secured a world cup place (2002 I think)? It was something like his 10th of the game but the media were shouting "ANOTHER BECKHAM SPECIAL!!". Although admittedly he's the golden boy that can do no wrong (except getting sent off against the Argies, but even that was a dirty foreign plot...)

Agree about the media, its not just the other home nations tits that they get on.

One thing though is that the England football team should have some expectations put on them to some extent, there have been some good teams and players that have been capable of success, sort of goes back to the penalty thing though, if England cant handle taking them then nothing will ever really change.

A lot of the mud the media throw has been thrown in the wrong direction for years, it should be thrown at the old farts in suits that run the game in this country, its inexcusable that this country should be so far behind the other big football countries with the coaching, amount of coaches, grassroots set ups etc...

I really couldn't give a toss about the babbling budgie headed face rubber or his England team. The fact he picks that bag of shite Wellbeck over Sterling tells you all you need to know.

On the plus side, it means Raheem is less likely to get injured.

Hodgson is a massive tit. The defeatist mediocre shit he spouted when manager of us was embarrassing for a Liverpool manager.

Hodgson isn't a cunt.
He's just way out of his league.
And he just isn't tactically astute enough to do anything other than rub his face when we look static.
Frustrating and dull, yes. Cunt, no.

Because Platt scored in the last minute of extra time before England could fuck up the penalty shoot-out.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing how this England team handle a penalty shoot-out : Gerrard, Lambert, Baines, Rooney, Johnson, Lampard .... I'm assuming Budgie knows to bring on the penalty specialists on the bench and not sub. off those already on the pitch, though that may be one assumption too far.

I hope at least they've practised them. The suggestion you sometimes hear that teams needn't bother doing so "because you can't replicate what it's like in a real match situation" has always seemed daft to me.

Agreed. Whilst players may sometimes have cracked under pressure I doubt those occasions outweigh the occasions when muscle memory gets players scoring a pen almost on 'autopilot'.

I think people are quite disrespectful here. After all Hodgson won the league with Malmø and later had a decent season with Halmstad. He has been coaching many good teams as Viking and Grasshoppers, Nd he took Finland away from last in their qualification group. Dont forget that he was close to a memorable draw with Everton when he was with us!!! To think we should ever got something from that ga.e would be surrealistic!!!

Don't forget his 2 months with inter!
