Roy Hodgson is a fucking cunt

I don't think it needs all that just to perform well at a world cup, though, the basic minimum requirement. Costa Rica don't have any of that, and you can't tell me Chile have a better infrastructure than England.

England are producing good players, but have chosen the wrong manager. They need someone with a clear vision and ethos. Not some bumbling idiot or mercenary manager who's in it for the money. Teams can be made to be greater than the sum of its parts, it can be done, and this world cup shows it.

But Roy has his proven methods - he doesn't need to change them. He won Scandanavian league titles and all kinds back in the eighties y'know

Roy just said he hopes his team today - made up with all the players he didn't rate highly enough to play when it mattered - 'will at least give us another good performance'. "Another" good performance? With a team of second and third choices? He's going out as he came in - utterly incoherent. Why not blend in a few and actually try to get a decent result? The back four is Jones, Cahill, Smalling and Shaw. Mouthwatering.

It's not incomprehensible why Hodgson is still there, though. Who else is up for it? Managers under about 60 don't want to abandon daily involvement in a club. Foreign managers over 60 have seen how the players and press tried to blame Capello for everything and understandably don't fancy it anymore. Redknapp was blocked. So that leaves, well, Hodgson. What England needs is someone with the nous and vision and humility of Ron Greenwood, who thought beyond his own security and tried to link all levels together, bring in good young managers to get experience at lower international levels and generally build for the future whilst getting the senior side to play reasonably progressive football. I actually think Redknapp is still the only one close to serving that kind of role, unless Hoddle is given a second chance.

Yes - I'd like to see England be as successful in the future as they were under Greenwood.

"Apart from first the 10 to 12 minutes, we dominated totally. We didn't take our goal chances - if we did we would have comfortably won".

Roy's even hopeless with gender issues - Gabby Logan asked him, very tactfully, some perfectly apposite questions and he was dismissive. Gabriel Clarke asked him pretty much the same and he was all meek and contrite.

He's just a completely underwhelming manager, with underwhelming tactics, and underwhelming performances. There are problems with the FA, and the quality of players coming through, and the undervaluing of players with intelligence, but the fact remains that Hodgson is a fairly average manager with a win rate of around one in three. He's never going to produce an England team that plays consistently well.

Slag him all you like but it takes a special kind of genius to be as hopelessly incompetent as he is and yet be backed and praised to the hilt by just about everybody outside of Liverpool
