I like this guy. I don't think he's going to have to come fourth to keep his job. I think he's got to be given time to build something, and I think if he's afforded that then he probably will.

Rodgers shortlist according to some (possibly reliable) rumours:

Jordy Clasie DM/CM, from what I've seen he has the same build as Spearing but he's better on the ball.
Dos Santos WF
Sigurdsson AM/CM

I suspect those are the players he'll get in if we don't offload any. Should we offload a couple on gig wages I see at least one, more likely two, coming in.

You could imagine Brendan had already discussed his Summer targets with the Swansea board prior to his move and they're now moving swiftly to seal deals for these players.

If the targets had half a brain they'd think twice now that the manager's gone and there's a chance of them joining Liverpool.

Whether he's agreed to move or not is neither here nor there.

If he hasn't signed he's fair game, & given the choice between here & Swansea I'm confident we'll win.

Doe anyone else find it a tad depressing that we are now competing with Swansea in the transfer market?

Nope

It's the quality of player that's an indicator. Sigurdsson had proven he's PL quality on 2 occasions.

All young up and coming players, not even close to their peak. I think it's encouraging.
Add Aquilani, Allen, Ramirez and I'm sold.

Oh and get rid of Downing and Adam.

I thought you said ramierez wasn't a target?

Ian Ayre today praised the professionalism of Wigan boss Roberto Martinez - while reiterating that Brendan Rodgers was the only manager to be offered the job at Anfield.
The Reds unveiled the Northern Irishman as their new boss last week after an extensive process which included talking to Martinez.

But despite claims to the contrary from Wigan chairman Dave Whelan, Liverpool's managing director insists Rodgers proved to be the man they wanted to succeed Kenny Dalglish.
"Our aim from the outset was to conduct a proper, thorough, search, and do it in the proper manner," said Ayre.

"From our point of view, we did all the right things. We approached the clubs we needed to approach, and conducted ourselves properly at all times.

"It is disappointing, then, that Dave Whelan felt the need to run the kind of sideshow he conducted via Sky Sports News and various other media outlets.

"To be honest, I always thought John Bishop was the biggest comedian in the north west, but Dave Whelan seems to have taken that mantle over the last couple of weeks!

"It is important to understand that we ran a proper search to find a new manager, and that part of that involved us speaking to a number of candidates.

"We make no secret of the fact we spoke with Roberto Martinez, but that is all we did. He is a great guy, and I can't speak highly enough of his professionalism and conduct.

"But for his chairman to make suggestions like he has, and suggestions that just aren't true, well it is disappointing to say the least. We can say with absolute certainty that the only person who was made any offer by Liverpool Football Club is Brendan Rodgers".

God's sake, Ayre, there's no need to deal with the Whelan issue like that. A brief and dignified clarification was al that was needed.

I agree - If Ayre wanted to have a go at Whelan he could have just picked up his phone and spoken to him. It's never beneficial to have your arguments via the columns of the newspapers.

Yep, very unprofessional to complain about someone else being unprofessional.

Nah, the wording is probably at bit ott. But Whelan made us clueless by making his ramblings public.

There was nothing wrong with what Ayre said there, I think we needed to publicly state that he was incorrect in what he was saying otherwise he's just making us look like fools.

I think Whelan did what he had to do to unsettle things and keep hold of Martinez.
By heaping pressure via the media, it helped bring things to a head. No one from LFC was confirming/denying anything to do with the manager search so SSN and the lads were only to happy to get some copy. I wouldn't have any problem with how Whelan conducted things.

Ayre's response is really, really poor though. The new man is in place, move on.

It will prompt more headlines, provoke Whelan to respond and keep the whole silly saga going. It also lacks class and is gratuitously insulting when a simple and dignified rebuttal was all that was needed.
