And correct if I'm Wrong but isn't 50m a transfer record for a player into the premier league?

All that money for someone who is arguably in the bottom 10% of performers in the league since he went to Chelsea

It isn't like selling your soul. It's a courtesy to posts that make you laugh or think....

Ryan & GKMacca agreed on something in a thread recently (of course they probably don't know cause they're igniting each other).

I think that's progress for Ryan - we don't want to scare him too much with "likes".

The seperate post to recognise humour or intrigue means more.

'Likes' are akin to giving your missus an email instead of a card on her birthday.

I'm trying to jeep the tradition alive s'all.

So you're counting a 30 minute substitute appearance as justification for him "at his best he was ripping teams apart"?

I'll not even bother with the fact that teams is plural either.
I never said he did it every week I said at his best he was superb and 30 mins or not it was the biggest game of our season and he was our stand out player.

"At his best he was superb". There was no best, no superb, no nothing. Just pure lanky Jimmy Nail balls for 35 million pounds. Don't even begin to find some sliver in any of it.

He's effectively trying to sell the fucker.

If he can at least make the prospective buyers think he believes that then it can add a couple of million to the fee.

Have anyone seen this de Vrij lad play regularly, is he any good in the air?

*Could be another Kuyt, at least in terms of no-one knowing how to pronounce his name right.

De Vrij is ace. I hope to God we sign him.

Ashley Williams, Hatem Ben Arfa, Christian Eriksen, Stefan de Vrij, Lazar Markovic all being watched by #LFC.

Note we are ONLY watching these players.. whether we end up signing any of them will be differant matter altogether..

Spurs most likely will come in and swoop the lot.. As we all know spurs don't employ scouts, they just use ours.

We will probably end up with ex Swansea player Scott Sinclair from Man City and some young Yesil type character

Gah! According to the Echo we've ended our interest in de Vrij and will concentrate on Williams.

LIVERPOOL FC will target Swansea City skipper Ashley Williams this summer as boss Brendan Rodgers looks to find a replacement for Jamie Carragher.
Securing the services of a dominant centre-back is the club’s overriding priority in the next transfer window and Williams tops their shortlist.
The Reds are also monitoring a number of alternative options but Feyenoord defender Stefan De Vrij is no longer on their radar.
Liverpool have had the 21-year-old Holland international watched by scouts regularly this season.
Rodgers flew to Rotterdam to see him in action against PSV Eindhoven last month but he failed to impress and the club are now focusing their attention elsewhere
Swansea manager Michael Laudrup faces a battle to keep hold of Williams, who recently captained the Welsh outfit to League Cup glory at Wembley.
Rodgers worked with the 28-year-old during his two years in charge of the Swans and believes he has all the qualities required to succeed at Anfield.
The Wales international skipper, who only penned a new deal back in October, is under contract until 2015 and would command a fee of around £8million. He has also attracted interest from Arsenal.
Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Southampton on Saturday underlined just how much Carragher, who sat the game out due to a shin injury, will be missed when he retires in May.

Swansea City Captain Ashley Williams
Rodgers brought Carragher back into the side at Skrtel’s expense in January because he felt his backline was in need of better leadership and organis-ation.
The hope is that Williams will provide similar attri-butes with the defender, who joined Swansea from Stockport County in 2008, also strong in the air and comfortable in possession.
Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have installed a transfer policy of investing in youth with the emphasis on signing players under the age of 24 and building for the future.
Since Rodgers took over last summer they have bought seven players at a total cost of around £49million with the oldest being Oussama Assaidi, who signed two days after his 24th birthday.
However, managing director Ian Ayre recently made it clear that strategy isn’t “set in stone” and said exceptions would be made.
Rodgers is confident that FSG will agree with his assessment that it would be impossible to replace Carragher with a rookie and loosen the purse strings for him to buy an experienced defender like Williams.
With questions marks over Skrtel and Sebastian Coates out of favour having not featured since the FA Cup defeat to Oldham two months ago, it’s possible that Rodgers could need as many three centre-backs this summer.
The club will look to boost their transfer kitty with the sale of Andy Carroll.
It looks increasingly unlikely that the club’s £35million record signing will stay at West Ham United when his loan spell ends in May.
Liverpool will look to find a buyer for the big frontman, who would favour a return to his boyhood club Newcastle.

I wouldnt mind Williams if he's brought in with another CB or two. Were one of them is of great quality.
The price will also be key.
It sounds strange that we've ended our interest in De Vrij after watching him in 1 game against PSV.

Williams has improved over the Season and on his day he's a very strong CB that's also very good on the ball.

I am not convinced he's the right man however as he's not quite as dominant as I would've hoped for, but nothing really indicates de Vrij should be the answer either, have we indeed been scouting him and found him to light-weight.

28-years-old is not much for a CB, so I am not too worried about his age.

In my opinion we'd only need one new starting XI CB despite all of Coates, Skrtel and Carra leaving, he's just got to be the right one. We've got adequate cover in both Kelly and Wisdom I believe, both players with a potential bright future ahead of them, and if we could then add another talented CB we'd be alright.

A DM is equally important as well as we also should be in the market for an AM imo.

It says we have had him watched several times this Season mate, with the PSV game being the one finally ending our pursuit. Sounds about right to me.

He is good player but there is no chance we will get him 8 million, probably have to double that fee as we did for Allen and for that reason it will be a bad deal.

As far as I recall, Bob Paisley - and Shankly, and Dalglish - very rarely signed someone aged over 24/25, so yet again there's way too much being made about the 'new' approach of FSG here. The issue is really only about the rigidity of such a policy - do you relax it when an exceptional talent is available for the right price and wages? Surely then only idiots would resist. But Williams is hardly one to warrant the exception to the rule.

I have not really seen Williams in action, why is he not good enough? Not fast enough? Not commanding enough? Not a good header?

I'm fairly sure Williams won't be the only CB we sign and I hope that's the case. It would be self-defeating to go into next season with our four centre backs being Williams, Agger (who we have to constantly 'manage', fitness-wise) and two young players who have barely played as centre back for the first team, if at all, in Kelly and Wisdom.

EDIT: And I think the most prudent way of having a centre-back 'squad' is to have three established centre backs and one young'un. Which is why I think we should sign two. Three if we're going to replace Agger.

If a DM like Wanyama were to be brought in as well, one who can also deputise in the CB role, I wouldn't be to worried about it, but perhaps I am a bit too optimistic on Kelly's and Wisdom's behalf. I like them both mind, and believe they could be ready.

My reaction just about every time I've seen him has been that he's fairly ordinary, not bad at any of those things but not outstanding either. As I said before, it isn't that he's a poor player, but neither is he a player whom I would see as helping to take us to a higher level.
