Rodgers plans

Thats a good synopsis. We depserately need someone who is good in the air and organising others in the centreback position.

We should try and convert Carroll into a centre back. He seemed to win every defensive header when he was here.

I'm guessing Rodgers wants to add to the squad aswell. So if we sell 4 players he'll bring in more than 4 to get the depth he needs.

With 20ish mill + sales we need to be creative and clever. We need quality.

It's important to remember aswell that more players from the ressies will be given a chance to step up over the Summer, cf Sterling and Suso, so we could have a couple of newbies in that respect.

Yeah, I think McLaughlin will be promoted.

Hopefully, it will negate the need for us to buy and he can be a longterm successor to Johnson, I don't think I've personally been more excited about a young player in a long, long time, and that's mostly because he looks like Vegard Heggem!

He does, and looks so experienced and calm for his age. I'm thinking a combo of Rob Jones and Heggem 🙂

Shame Robinson is struggeling, that would have saved us buying a left back. Hopefully Wisdom/Kelly can step up and replace Coates as the 4th CB.

Nothing will ever stop me being pissed off about spending £35m on Carroll. It's probably the single worst and most avoidable transfer mistake by any team in the whole PL era. Rafa got a good fee for Alonso but that doesn't mean he shouldn't get slated for spending £17m on Aquilani.
??? Torres for 50m is way worse

Combo of Rob Jones and Heggem.... he'd be some fucking player no doubt.... during his month long playing career.

It always upsets me to think that if Jones hadn't been so fragile we would never have even had to find out what Neville is like as a pundit.

Heggem.... it still makes me sad that.... technique in spades.... no fucking luck but bad luck.

No,that price made sense, only hindsight made it worse.

Carroll had 6 months if good performances in the top flight.

We got bummed

And if he went on to score every other week it would have made sense?

So if Caroll scored lets say 10 goals first season and say 25 goals last year and was on 25 this year would you still say it was the worst transfer because at the time we bought him he hadn't played much?

Rooney went for what 30m after 1 good season with a mid table team and that was 5 years ago. Was that getting bummed too?

Torres 50m for a player who'd performed for almost 12 months to the level that got him that price tag and completely nosedived after the fact.

But it was understandable. He was widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world at the time. Carroll had looked good for half a season.

And if Carroll went on to become prolific for us wouldn't people praise the signing and seeing it as paying premium for the next big thing.

Rooney was 16 and scoring. Big difference. Carroll was 21 and scoring.

If Carroll scored 25 a season for us then of course it wouldn't have been an awful transfer. Same if torres scored 25 a season for chelsea.

And torres showed a lot more in 2 years with us (as well as at his time with athletico) than Carroll ever showed. His poor 6 months with us could be down to attitude, like it arguably is now.

Pat, out the 2 Carroll was the worse because at his best he was a 15m player, torres at his best was a 50m player.

Also, if rooney was shit for united then yes, United would have been suckers. But he hasn't. He's excelled for them and repaid that figure.

Carroll and torres haven't come close to justifying their figures, but at least torres was worth 50m at his best.

I totally don't get your argument pat.

At all.

You compare to rooney who's obviously been a success... To prove as to how Carroll (who wasn't a success) WASN'T an awful transfer?

Boggled

At his best he was ripping teams apart. Sadly we only saw him truly like that in a handful of games notably the FA Cup final. But you can't have it both ways you either judge the bumming size of a transfer at time of sale or after you've seen how it pans out. In the former I think it was a close call as Rooneys transfer showed you have to pay big for British talent and the latter isn't even a debate, at least Carroll showed signs of improvement when backed, Torres gets worse and worse even with Rafa there

14m for an average winger from juventus. Awful deal? At the time questions would have been raised sure, but he went on to be one of the most prolific cunty chops ever did Henry.

Transfers can only be judged when their career is finished with that club combined with the knowledge of how they performed at the previous club.

Torres= great form for liverpool, Spain & athletico for 6 years. Awful for chelsea now (but still scored in a champions league semi away to barca)= awful

Carroll= great form for Newcastle for 6 months. Pretty awful for us. Awful for west ham on loan= very awful

So we should pay 50m to get Torres back then as at his best he is worth that?

I think the point is, and yes it is a very minor one, Rooney was scoring lots of goals, whereas Andy Carroll...well, hasn't been.

Torres was never the same player after the WC and has been nothing short of shite for Chelsea.
Carroll was very good for Newcastle, didn't get a far chance for me to play to his strengths at Liverpool, finally was showing good form and then got shipped out and has been injured pretty much since.
They both have been massive failures based on their price tag but for me Torres is miles worse.
Carroll was young raw and had bags of potential it was a big gamble and didn't pay off.
At 50m Torres was seen a rock solid investment as 1 of the best strikers on the planet. Not only did he not fulfil that he hasn't even been an average or poor striker. He's been absolutely atrocious.
We all hoped Carroll would be a world beater but nobody was stunned when he wasn't.
Everyone at Chelsea expected Torres to be and are stunned at how shit he has been.
That for me is the difference.
Ps you know I'm brutal at explaining point unless its face to face
