Qatari Sponsorship?

Tony Barrett with a story about this today.
Would you rename Anfield if the money was to good to turn down?

Here it is:

Any damage done to Liverpool’s brand by Luis Suárez’s notorious bite on Branislav Ivanovic has not prevented a leading Qatari telecommunications company from expressing an interest in sponsoring the Merseyside club.

Ooredoo, formerly Qatar Telecom, is reported to have contacted Liverpool last week as they look for a tie-up with a leading Premier League club.

Sources at the Anfield club insist that any interest remains tentative and no deal is close, but they will be heartened that the controversy surrounding Suarez does not appear to have reduced their attractiveness to potential sponsors.

Liverpool’s shirt sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered, which is worth up to £20 million per season, expires next summer and they have already held positive discussions with the financial institution about extending that deal.

With Standard Chartered’s period of exclusivity expiring recently, Liverpool are able to negotiate with other parties and Ooredoo, whose brand ambassador is Lionel Messi, are said to be looking into the possibility of becoming their main sponsor.

“The goal was to sponsor a big English club with a huge history,” an Ooredoo spokesman is reported to have told Al-Jazeera. “Our search included Arsenal and Manchester United but the former two have long sponsorship deals and the same applies to Manchester City, so Liverpool is the only club available right now.”

“We want to sponsor the club in full. We want to sponsor the stadium [possibly rename it] as well as the club’s kits. Our goal is to reach the Asian markets where the Premier League has an enormous fan base.

“We received the tender from the club a few days ago and we are in the process of due diligence.
“It is a dual interest, Liverpool need the money to compete with the European heavyweights and we want to expand our brand to reach new markets via football.”

they only say possibly rename it, with the owners looking to get our name bigger in america and sponsors gathering attention in the east it sounds like a pretty good business model if the moneys good enough*

* disclaimer: i know absolutely fuck all about business

I vos only obeying ordures!

Surely they'd want their brand ambassador playing for the club their brand sponsors.

Maybe he's part of the deal?

*wakes up & has a nice cup of coffee*

I think someone in Qatar said too much.
Could this be dressing up some other business deal as a sponsorship screen, so the two sides could have a ready made excuse to be seen negotiating?

Just a thought

You have been hearing rumours then Vlad.

No, I just like to think I have a nose for this sort of thing.
I did hear a rumour in the week we were for sale, but I don't think that is particularly news. It strikes me the Yanks got a good deal, I think Hicks and Gillet did get roundly shafted and it was an epic swindle Henry and Werner, set things on an even keel, and could turn in a very nice profit if they wanted to. Stuff back home are not going great, financially and the Sox fans feel they are being spread too thinly as we do, I just feel if the right offer was made they would take it.
On the other hand , if anyone deserved to have wealth chucked at us before City and fucking Chelsea it was us, and as we see despite us not having been a force for many years, we still command a huge pull particularly in the far and middle East.

Just thoughts count and putting two and two together and coming up with five.

I've fucking wish.

More likely they're gonna use this sponsorship money to upgrade the new stadium & get us on an excellent financial footing, then try to sell us, knowing the world of oil money will be willing & wide open due to this connection.

I hope I'm wrong & it happens sooner, but I think they'll hang on for more money in a couple of years as tv revenue continues to rise.

Hicks and Gillett were our owners for three and a half years and at least produce impressive plans for a new stadium.
Fenway have been in charge for over two and a half years and so far they have only produced statements saying that an announcement was imminent.

Those plans cost about 10m, they fucking should have been impressive.

That wasn't really the point though.
I should add though that Fenway did scrap those self same stadium plans so I suppose they have done something I guess

Read on a couple of other forums that the story has got legs, but its very early days.
The denial will give them the peace and quiet they need.

It's one of the reasons the current owners have never progressed the stadium.
Any new owners would want their own decision on matters.
You don't put your house up for sale and then build an extension afterwards

I don't think the two cowboys were swindled, old chum. No High Court judge would have made the public rulings Mr.Justice Floyd made in the court case if that's what he thought they amounted to. Occasionally judges are forced by what the law says to make rulings they don't like, but in such cases they'll make it very clear that they're not happy their hands were tied. Mr.Justice Floyd gave no sign of any such reservations. H and G were crooks, Broughton was smart enough and tough enough to take them on and the High Court gave them what they deserved.

I'm not saying it was a bad thing at all and they indeed got what they deserved, but Broughton and all got more than lucky in court, and it was only the way the other two conducted themselves and not the facts that lead to the decision.

Luck never came into it, Vladders. H and G's conduct showed their bad faith and initially the other board members, then the court, held them to account for it. We were always going to win that case provided (a) we were well represented and (b) the judge had his head screwed on straight. Fortunately for us, both those things applied.

Nah, they let themselves get trussed up like turkeys, through taking their eye off the ball some time earlier, and foolishly trusted their employees.....fortunately

Another great thread about the lizard cuntbags who've traded with our passion for the past half a dozen years.

Fuck it all in the eye.
