Yeah that's possible. Also, Trent has been a bit up and down ever since he got Covid.
I've never seen him worse than he's been in certain games this past calendar year.
It's like he forgot how to defend.

I actually thought about it - I think it would make sense. Individually Matip has been brilliant, but as a unit our defense had some issues lately and one of the issues is that we rely on VVD’s pace all the time in the high line. Going with Gomez will add another quick option alongside VVD who will be able to cover a lot of space and help when Trent is caught out of position.

I think so, not just because of his pace at CB but because if Trent goes rampaging upfield it's easier for Gomez to cover across at RB and let Fabinho drop into the centre. Matip has been excellent so far this year but covering the RB space is not something he's great at. The issue with Gomez is I wouldn't fancy him winning a header v Ronaldo or Cavani, he gets lost under the ball a bit like Trent so having them on the same side makes you vulnerable to an overload on that side like Brentford did a couple of times.

Exactly so and Utd’s game plan and players will look to exploit it. Even AM with better finishing would have beaten us.
 
I'm going to put my neck on the line - I'm starting Tsimikas at LB and Naby in midfield with Fabs and Hendo. Rest of the team as you would expect with Frim up top

According to Maddock, Jones is fit and will be available for the Utd game.
Thiago will be back in training this week and can hopefully be available next week.
 
I still wouldn't start Jones if he is available, he's not got the right mentality yet. He holds onto the ball too long and gets his pocket picked. He's a great option to bring on after 60 mins when midfielders are starting to tire and a bit more space opens up but I don't think he's got the right intensity to start this one.

I'm torn. Love this away kit (and bought it), so would be nice to actually see it. However having the players easily identifiable in bright yellow must have its benefits and I think we have a 100% record in it so far.
 
Dont think I'd play Gomez in this one. Utd are far to strong on set pieces and without Matip we're dangerously relying on only Virgil.
If Konate had played more minutes I'd be leaning more to starting him.

But the safest is Matip - Virgil.

Haven't seen much data about it, but was reading a preview highlighting how poor United are at defending set pieces. If this is actually the case (one I can imagine with Lindelof back in) then I'd definitely keep Matip & Virg, although I can definitely see the advantages of playing Gomez.

We need to be brave with our line, and Robbo needs to stop standing 2 yards deeper than everyone else which he is very guilty of recently.

Yeah, I think from an attacking point of view we could hurt them on set pieces. They have though been scoring some goals on their own attacking set pieces after bringing in a new set piece specialist.

We drew against Brentford in it, so no - not 100%. In fact I was worried the Atletico game was going to finish 3:3 because of the kit…

We should organise one of those pools that they play at weddings during the speeches for every time Penaldo goes down in the box.
