Post Match thoughts - Manure

Also, credit to the ref, I thought he was fantastic today.

He was decent enough, though one or two of ManUre's players were fairly lucky still to be on the pitch by the end.

Overall what we saw from the ref.today was, as much as anything, a reflection of the fact that Ferguson wasn't on the touchline

Everyone, please, with the international break on its way, we've plenty of time to criticize our players. For now, wild abandon celebration.

Massive, MASSIVE win. I thought we were poor, however. Defensively, though, we were good enough, and luckily Man Utd were even worse than we were.

Skrtel - great performance. Agger was good too, but still a few lapses which could have cost us. Johnson was great defensively, also, and Mignolet looks like a calm and reliable pair of hands in goal. Mention to Henderson, too, of whom I'm a massive fan. His work rate was fantastic and he's good in possession.

I am a little concerned with our second half performances this season, but I feel we'll iron the nerves out and start bagging more goals. Especially with Suarez to come into this side.

We are not making it easier for ourselves in these 2nd halves are we, fucking hell we were all over the place for about 40 minutes and then got some composure towards the end when they started to tire

HighlightsSturridge - fucking love him, there is a big difference between a player who scores 3 goals in a game against beaten sides and a guy who is scoring winners every week. What a signing
Johnson - shame about the injury but he was excellent today. Every once in a while he turns in that sort of performance that reminds you why we paid so much money for him, he was excellent today
Skrtel - two years ago he was our best player, last year he was persona non grata. There is a fine player in there but he needs the right partner and the right coaching. Id be sorry to lose him if he does go. MOM for me

Worries
Coutinho - he just didnt want to know today, his passing was poor, work ethic was low and he seemed to be spent after about 40 minutes. Beginning to worry about his fitness levels, hes been poor in the 2nd half of every game we played this year
Aspas - looked badly out of his depth, it was Borini Mk II for him today, plenty of effort but he was just nowhere near the pace of the game
Priorities? - we have brought in 4 defenders this summer and only lost 1 from last years first team squad. We look really short in midfield having moved on or loaned Suso Shelvey Downing and Spearing with only Alberto and now Moses coming in, it showed 2nd half when we needed to make some changes and had very few options, most of which were teenagers with little experience in these games

What game were you watching?

Massive win in terms of confidence building for the rest of the season now.... If we can stay injury free up top then we can definitely challenge for top 4 with performances like these.

The other great thing about today is that will add a bit of uncertainty in the Scummers dressing room.... Bloody brilliant!

Shanks would've loved it!

2005 all over again...

We are going to win the League!!!

Liverpool top of the league. Russia and US on a war footing. New Paul McCartney single. What is this, 1989?

From the pre-match thread: Ossi "We will 1-0, Sturridge. I can see a pattern"

Wooohoooo!

Thought Henderson was superb as was the majority of the back line. Coutinho, some nice touches aside, was awful. Aspas was anonymous as was his replacement. Sturridge was wasteful at times but a constant threat. Made up we have him.

Great result - happy we've picked up the ability to grind out results, but also nervous about how our performance drops in the second half - but that's a debate for another day.

Amazing win.

The fact we held on in the second half, should do the teams confidence a world of good that we can compete we the best.

There seems to be a mental toughness (still concerned about fitness) that I have not seen in a long time. Wonder what this stems from? That psychologist from cycling?

Stoke in Europe would be amazing

Also Spurs playing one match less than everybody else 😉
