Indeed, that was some great banter! Nice to see.

I don't think the SAS egos are quite as manageable as we like to think. They looked almost angry with each other last night. Like two selfish dicks.

Hope I'm wrong

Off the top of my head:

Rooney
Cristiano Ronaldo
Ibrahimovic
Cantona
Drogba
Henry

You don't think any of those lads had an ego the size of the fucking moon?

They were both frustrated cos things weren't going their way.

Sturridge looked angry at a few players at times & Suarez did too, not just at each other.

You read way too much into this shit.

I'm of the opinion that all great strikers have to have an overwhelming hunger for goals . . . . . which inevitably means they have to be selfish. I think Suarez and Sturridge do have the ability to curb their selfishness when a pass is the better option.

Some of those do but often they are the main man. We have two to three if you count coutinho

Last night we would have won easily if our front three had dropped their egos a tad and passed.

Their numbers are becoming more important to them

We've won 7 in a row, and are 2nd in the table with those "egos".

I think we should take the risk.

I hope so. With less selfish play from them we would not have had to sit there biting our nails last night.

Let's see against spurs. I thought Brendan's interview after was interesting. He said they are two individuals not really a partnership.

Also, this 'selfish play' thing is overblown. They have created a shit ton of goals for each other when played together.

The reason he said that was because he wanted to emphasis that they were individuals who make up the team, not a team who supports their partnership. Basically he was trying to heap the praise on the whole team, and try and move away from the media position that all Liverpool is is the SAS partnership.

Quite, they're always looking for each other. That outside foot cross did to Sturridge (the one where he hurt his neck) would have be yet another superb SAS goal last night.

I agree in the past. This thread is about last night. The way they played could have cost us the game.

Not quite.

He said they're 'individualistic' players in response to a direct question about Sturridge & Suarez scoring 20 goals each, & said it so he could switch the emphasis to the team performance.

Essentially he straight batted it, like he did every question, he's fucking good at that is Brendan.

The joshing between Gerrard and Suarez after the free kick was heart-warming. Gerrard clearly told Suarez "you're not taking any more free-kicks after this!" and Suarez was killing himself laughing as it turned into a wrestling bout. It was a sign of a happy team.

Yup ... a sign of a star player who will be staying here for one more season at least, if not more.

Said the same during the first half against Southampton, and against Cardiff as well. It works well when Henderson and Allen are having a stormer, both ruling the middle and the sides, but if they're off their game, the fullback positions become our soft underbelly. I personally don't like the diamond and I also think going 4-1-2-3 offers us more balance, or at least, fewer vulnerabilities.

Welcome to SCM, and enjoy your first "Like"! 😀

2nd like mate.

Yes you could say Brendan's after match interviews are a tad different to Kenny's

In their approach & attitude they're poles apart.

However, in their intended outcome they're exactly the same, to bypass any media agenda they may be setting, & ensure the point he wants to be made is the one that's aired.

Imagine you're a player getting off the coach and you get that in your face. Wow.

From the offal:

The 33-year-old was happy to be given the opportunity and was delighted that it helped Liverpool close the gap at the top of the table to just one point.

"I don't usually get a go at them," said Gerrard. "Suarez has been magnificent on set-pieces but sometimes you need people to step in and I got that one.

"Suarez let me take one! He wouldn't let me take one at Cardiff, but it doesn't matter who gets the goals."

Last night's strike takes Gerrard's career goal tally to 170, just two shy of Anfield legend, Kenny Dalglish.

On the SAS thing, on the radio last night Rodgers was bigging them up when asked about them but not as a partnership, he called them soloists and Suarez a performer, along the lines of give him a football pitch and he will give you a show.

So, for those of us who only saw the last 10 minutes due to being at a work event - what is the ref story?

Johnson was awful last night.
Some of his passing attempts were horrendous.
Both Suarez and Sturridge had a bit of an off night, Suarez in particular.
Good to see us winning regardless.
Its the sign of a good side when you grind out these results aswell.

The negative side is how we let them get back into it with a soft goal. We must be much more focused determined defensively in the last 7 games.
