I genuinely wanted 7 when we hit 4 so that we removed goal difference as an issue.

However, Rodgers move to shore things up was clearly the right one as they then hit on the ball more & could have got a goal or two back.

He knows this side so unbelievably well.

One game a week now. That will help for sure.

seemed to me they had a solid plan on how to approach the game and it worked out exactly as devised . Get the early goal , knock the stuffing out of a mentally fragile team and then just boss them . We really didn't go gung-ho or ever need to . It was all about control and then more goals would come . A very business like performance with no messing about ..very impressive .. it takes self confidence and dominance to carry that off .

OK, let's not go overboard here. It's a simple pass, it's not like Coutinho was clear on goal or anything.
Just need to ask, if that pass was "outstanding" what do you call Coutinho's assists?

i'm not referring to the pass, the assist in total - with one turn he took out half the spurs team - he was stuck in a corner being closed down and he made defence into attack.

it's a shame that despite recent wins certain individual players are receiving unfair treatment from the usual posters. we're on top of the league!

Flanni?

OK, I'm not saying that he had a bad game. I started off by saying that he did well.
I actually think the reason why he's getting so much praise is that you're underrating him.
I like the fact that the Anfield crowd are encouraging him but more often than not he's doing something we don't expect him to be able to do and that's why he's getting that praise.

When I did those ratings I asked myself, was he as good as Johnson? No, therefore if Johnson gets a 7 he gets a 6.5.

Johnson was great today, but back to Flanagan..

I think you're (again) doing him a disservice. So you think that people are getting excited about him doing rudimentary stuff and the occasional unexpected drop of the shoulder or good piece of play from the back. You're overlooking the moments where he went into full blooded tackles, won the ball and left their player wondering what hit them.

At least twice he put his mark on their attackers with crunching challenges that saw them cry off for the rest of the game. And, to add some perspective, as a defender that's him completely leading by example, letting the opponent know from the word go that they're in for a fight. The bit of skill for Coutinho's goal was just the icing on the cake, it's not people being exasperated by something we don't expect from him, it's full recognition of his progress as a player and his performance today, which was largely excellent. You said Johnson was better, it was pretty marginal, I'm guessing that opinion comes from Johnson's attacking flurries today with Sterling, which is great, but defensively (which is the fundamentals of a defender), he was as good as anyone. One being more eye catching than the other doesn't equate to a gulf in difference.

Johnson more often than not gets the plaudits for his attacking play, because it's his strength, there's absolutely zero reason why someone's defensive prowess should be played down in comparison. Otherwise you're heading into Spiderneil's territory, of judging defenders more positively if their strengths rest on how good they are with the ball.

I like that point Mark ... Flanno's challenges come off as bloody hard ... and opponents feel that ...You don't want to go into 50/50 balls with players like that looking to break you ... legally.

agree re: flanno - his 50/50 into lennon early on scared the shit out of lennon - he disappeared for the rest of the game. bottler.

We where fucking mint. As for winning the league I am not convinced as Brendan says concentrate on the next match and that's it. Let's not to go mad

Next time Coutinho makes a brilliant tackle, I eagerly await Modo pointing out to us that he shouldn't really get the plaudits, coz yer know, Skrtel does it every week.

Oh, and it's nice to see my prediction about the team, and the lack of a need for Allen OR Lucas was bang on. I'm still waiting for Lucas to be "playing most games" now that he's back.

I knew I'd be opening a can of worms by mentioning Flanno.

Reminds me of all those discussions about Carra.

Kept a clean sheet with Agger on the pitch...again.

Why are we arguing here?

Fuck agendas for now please.

I think it's Verthonghen. Didn't look interested, probably feigned an injury to get off the pitch.

Not sure if its been mentioned elsewhere, but I read this on another site:
March 30, 1964 Liverpool went top of the table after being Tottenham 3-1 and later won the league - the first one under Shankly.
50 years on ....
