Post Madness - Norwich

Klopp, however, was adamant his side dealt with set plays better – but admits there is still a lot of work to be done after the performance raised 'different' mistakes.
“It's easy to see,” said Klopp. “Today, we conceded from set plays but defended them better. Things like this can happen.
“There was better formation and organization, defend first ball but they all stay in the box. The first goal with the heel. Now we make different mistakes.
Watch our games and tell me how many percent (of shots his side concede). It's not easy.
Manchester United had no chances. Arsenal had one or two.
(Against Norwich) It was the first ball we defended better, but we made a problem.
Usually we concede from the corner but now it was from the second ball, we were like rabbits in the headlights.
Now we have to solve this.”

I was not emotional during the game at all today. I think what most of us experienced today is no different from what we have been experiencing in all the other games under Klopp except the game against Man City. The only difference today was that the performance was backed up by actual goals from us and the opposition. 4-5, 2-3 - does not matter - in effect it is still a 1 goal difference score line.

What I find very interesting - is that now that there is a genuine bid for an attacking midfielder, our three non-scoring midfielders suddenly produce 1 goal each !!!! I guess it's true that competition does strengthen the composure suddenly. There is so much shit regarding our so called bad defenders, but the way I see it - the problem is more systemic and runs through the entire team rather than a couple of defenders. Sakho not been able to head the ball ? what a load of shit, I saw him head the ball countless times, their first goal could have happened to any PL defender, if every goal we concede is going to be about bad defenders then most PL teams will be changing their defenders every six months. Our main problem at the back is that there is no-one organizing the defense, our three main defenders play for their national teams, but two of them are the combative type in Skrtel, and Sakho - who are really best when following instructions for a senior defender. Lovren was bought in to do the organizing but that has not really happened despite his up in form this season.

Adam Lallana - Klopp was right to rest him, he had quite a few misplaced passes against United last week and genuinely looked exhausted. So resting him for the first half was right, and the commentator was saying that Ibe looked unhappy when taken off but you could see his brain started leaving him with some odd attempts at passing. Lallana is actually the best player at holding the ball up the pitch in our team, he has that nice turn and skill to dodge but his only let down is that he does not seem strong enough when pushed a little.

Crazy game - but we won at least.

Sakho was Captain for PSG and starts for France.

Skrtel is Captain of his Country and has been at Liverpool for 9 years and counting.

Surely to jesus they don't need instructions from a senior defender?

They need something from someone to organize them to a certain extent. Primary reason being that I don't see either of those two defenders being the ones that sit back and point fingers at others to move here or there. The first site of danger those two come out immediately to try and put a stop to things, they never look around do they ? - When Sami played for us he stood back and was composed - wasn't the type to consistently stick his knee in the back of a player in a non-dangerous area.

I actually don't think Sakho played poorly overall; I think injury is not a factor anymore and Man United game showed that he is back to his good form. The problem is, even in good form Sakho has certain weaknesses and one of them is the tendency to drop deep – something Carra talked about after the Chrystal Palace game that cost us the title. Klopp said that it's "unbelievable" that our defenders let Mbokani stay onside, it should be automatically ingrained in them that as soon as the ball is cleared from the area they move forward together. When Lovren was fit, he was usually the one shouting for people to "get out," this time Kolo was in the right position, but somehow his teammates, particularly Sakho and Lucas, showed no urgency to push out.

I don't think we will solve these problems until we have at least one CB who is really dominant in the air. A lot of the nervousness and the resultant mistakes come from lack of confidence in our ability to win the first header – and once you lose the first header (like we did in the build-up for the first goal) it's an inherently unpredictable situation. 4th Norwich goal perfectly illustrates this point – we had 3 of our players all going for the same ball, because there is nobody like Pique or Terry who can take charge of the situation and who can make his teammates trust he will win a header most of the time. So they all go for it, get in each other's way, it bounces off Sakho's leg (I think) and perfectly in front of Bassong...

I think it's not a coincidence that our run of conceding from set-plays coincided with Lovren's injury, who is not exactly dominant, but still the best defensive header of the ball we have. Kolo doesn't have the agility anymore, so it's now Sakho's role to jump for every high ball and you can see he is not exactly comfortable with it. Let's see if Caulker can improve the situation. We also miss Joe Gomez, against certain teams it's better to have tall full-backs – West Ham scored both their goals by targeting Clyne. Maybe Flanno can also add a bit of solidity as well.

Ibe had one promising run in the first half, then pretty much disappeared. Lallana works hard off the ball, whereas Ibe just stands around looking lost and uninterested. It's no coincidence that we looked better when Lallana came on. He still needs to be way more productive, but until we get someone better (Teixera, for instance), he's going to start ahead of Ibe more often than not.

Lallana wasn't rested. He had a muscle injury so didn't start.

I'm firmly of the belief that our defensive woes are pretty much down to Mig rather than Sakho or whomever of the patched up barely fit quartet who play in front of him... he is about as much use as a chocolate fucking fireguard...

If he had not of flapped like a fucking vampire bat at the very defendable cross ball they wouldn't have had the fucking corner in the first place from which their first goal stemmed. The man is a self fulfilling prophecy of shitness.

We are quick to jump on Sakho to hoof it clear or better still push out on the second ball to generate the offside ffs but there were about 5 players directly in front of him within 2 metres, unlike Mignolet Sakho isn't allowed to fucking use his hands... that's the advantage the fucking Goaly has... I just wish our goaly could fucking work that out... the big fucking useless Jessy...

I fucking hate Mignolet, he is simply terrible. I hope for all our sakes he is one of those goalies who get better over time like Tim Howard or Friedel because it worries me considerably that nobody seems to have spotted at the club just how fucking stupidly costly the cunt is.... It's also been a good fucking while since i've seen one his "good shot stopping" moments n all...

Rant over... that was a highly enjoyable game... Firmino looks to be settling in now which is great news if we could get one of our injured speedsters back in the team we could do some cool shit I reckon. And if you can't enjoy Klopp going nuts at the end then you may as well give up watching! That was funny as fuck.

Reports are still linking us with Ter Stegen, which is giving some hope that they know Mignolet is shit despite the contract extension.

On corners, I don't know why we don't have one player ready to attack the space on the far side of the area, because so many of our corners are over-hit we may as well try to turn that to our advantage.

I think a lot of it is to with the Goal Keeper..

The back 4 does not have confidence in Mingolet as he does not know how to command his area and which arguably partly stems from Mingolet's lack of confidence in the back 4..

I mean in attack. OUR corners are over-hit. They tend to sail over everyone and out for a goal kick or corner. Apart from when they're under-hit...

At college I started a 3rd XI (which is still going 40 years later). Our left winger was a direct descendant of William Wordsworth and his crosses and corners were just like this. Once in mock frustration I asked if he deliberately made them float on high o'er vales and hills.

I didnt watch the game yesterday as I was working. But I thought id treat myself to reading the match thread over my morning Lavazza.
Fucking hilarious it is. I know I would have been the same if I was watching but fuck me its funny watching you all fall apart and come back up and fall apart and come back up.
Its the bi-polarist thread ever.

And Brendan said 'Spastic dithering' which made espresso come out my fucking eyeballs.

Football has a habit of making fools of us all.

Watching the match now... what was Morono doing? The defence is managing to make Naismith look like David Villa.

Suarez would have scored 4 against this Norwich team
