Players you'd wish never played for us

Robbie Keane - that was a real nod to the mid table clubs that we were leaving a spot in the top 4 open.

If we had another keeper who I could have trusted I'd agree.

He started really brightly, and then his confidence got shot to pieces because Rodgers wanted him to be a sweeper keeper and change how he played.

Rodgers didn't scout him properly

Capische? Don't go all 'Goodfellas' on me please. Ince didn't work out but everyone at the time thought it was a good signing. Maybe you're getting confused with the concept of hindsight. You do seem quite senior so maybe confusion is a normal thing for you..... Capische?

In the spirit of keeping to the thread - Carroll has to be the winner. He was pure fugazi..

The use of the word 'capisce' was a joke. Glad you could see that.
As someone who had a season ticket at the time we signed Ince I can assure you there were plenty of very vocal opponents to his signing. I would say it was around 50/50 with the mainstay of our support at the time.

Salif Diao, explain the positives he had. It was reported he was purchased so Diouf would settle in Mersey side easier - that worked out. Also, Carroll too.

He punched Franny Jeffers in the mouth and got a straight red in the min Derby game at Chester when I was there. That is good enough for me.

Jimmy Carter was astonishingly ineffectual for us. I've seen blades of grass that have been more influential in a game.

Mark Kennedy - to think Roy Evans swooped for him and then, a couple of years later, decided against buying Robbie Keane.

Alberto Aquillani - as the saying goes, it's not the despair that hurts, it's the hope.

We've had our fair share of turkeys over the years, certainly, but there's one who was so incomparably bad he frequently isn't even remembered when this subject comes up. Step forward the one, the only (thank Goodness):

Nicky Tanner.

I hear he's a decent lad and you couldn't fault him for effort, but he is - comfortably - the worst Liverpool player I've ever, ever seen. Bristol Rovers fans were totally stunned when we bought him, as even they didn't rate him, and Jan Molby apparently nominated him in an after-dinner speech once as the worst LFC player he came across (quote: "He somehow managed to come into training each day and be worse than the day before").

Nicky Tanner.

This guy shagged the fittest bird in my year at school on a club 18-30 holiday whilst he was with us. I was well jealous.

Tanner today:

Who the feck is asking for SIGNED pictures of Nicky Tanner??? Maybe he just thrusts them at innocent passersby.

Thanks for pointing out your joke. Fair play to you, your comedy skills are unmatched.

Back to the point about Ince - Your 1st hand view from Anfield (being a season ticket holder and all) gave you a unique insight into the minds of the Anfield faithful. One that I was sadly lacking being a Bucks dwelling OOT.

I vividly remember though pundits saying how perfect he was for us when we signed him. Indeed Des Lynam tipped us for the title on the strength of Ince signing. Still I'll go with your 50/50 summation.

Wow, yeah. Jimmy Carter. Close the thread. Macca has nailed it.

The media did absolutely call him the final piece of the title jigsaw etc. But the murmurings of the faithful, especially at aways, was pretty clear.
My use of the word capsiche was rooted in my post-work joint smoking in the early 90s at a mate's house where we used to watch Heartbreak High. It was a word the character Con used in the same way a kid today might say 'd'you get me'. An obscure reference, but there you go. Glad you understand my jokes and humour are unrivalled.

Bollocks. Someone beat me to Nicky Tanner.

But player I never wanted near the club was Paul fucking Ince. Disrespectful, arrogant little cunt.

And Julian Dicks.

And "the next teenage sensations from the continent"

And Jean Michel Ferri aka The spy.

I'll never forget Souness' explanation of why he bought Julian Dicks: 'He's a man'. That's the best he could come up with. It summed up how lost Souey had become by that stage.
