Players that should work out but don't

Oh, Huntelaar is another one. Clearly a world-class finisher, but somehow neither Real nor Milan were willing to give him enough playing time. Big contrast with the career of Van Nistelrooy, who is a pretty similar player.

Another one I thought was destined for greatness was Berbatov at MU. He was awesome at Spurs, on pure skill probably the best striker in the world at the time, he moved to United in his prime years, Fergusson was willing to build around him – but somehow he just didn't find the scoring consistency required at the highest level. Scoring hat-tricks against relegation fodder, but not really becoming what everybody expected of him when he moved to United.

Wesley Sneijder, unbelievable at Ajax, got the big money move to Real Madrid. Discarded after one season as Madrid spent big money in the summer of 2009 and had to recoup fees. Stumbled a bit at Inter but then Mourinho turned him around and he was the focal point in a team that win the treble. After Moutinho left he seemed to have loads of niggly injuries and then departed to Galatasaray. United chased him hard in 2010 and it'd have been interesting to see how he would have done there, sadly it seems he was interested more in the ££££'s

Didn't he score a hat-trick against us?!

Carroll and Downing

55 million quid, it will forever be a head shaker when seeing those 2 names, especially together.

Wonder what the equivalent of that would be now? Handing Sunderland 35 million for Connor Wickham for his little run of form wouldn't be far off, although its harsh on Wickham as he looks like he can play a bit.

The 20 million - probably Adam Johnson, promising young player who had a decent season after being bang average for the past few seasons, keeping with the north east connection as well.

Collymore was fucking great with Fowler. One of the best striker partnerships the premiership has ever seen. How did he fail?

You think Collymore was a success at Liverpool?

And there are at least ten better strike partnerships in the Premier league than those two. You're talking balls.
