Who are the players that should have reached their peak (or maintained it) when they joined a massive club, but it never quite happened for them.

I'll start with Henry at Barca. Villa at Barca.

Limanen, everything about him and his style of play said we were on to a winner.

Gaizka Mendieta - Lazio

At the time one of the most wanted players by the big clubs.

40M transfer fee, 1 season, did absolute fuck all

I think Ibra is hard done by there.

20 or so goals in his one season at Barca,

Then got shipped out because of Messi & Guardiola.

He doesn't really belong in the "should have worked out" thread because it was obvious he wasn't going to work out. They shouldn't have signed him. Also, I don't think he did as much as he could to succeed there either so I don't think he's that hard done by.

In contrast, I would say Henry and Villa are a little hard done by. They both did pretty well despite probably arriving at the end of their peak and having to play second fiddle.

If we're talking about Barca, then I'd say Fabregas. There seemed to be a great sense of homecoming from both sides in the run up to the transfer and with Xavi getting on it seemed to be the perfect signing. For some weird reason it hasn't been.

Not sure Litmanen counts. Before arriving, he'd already had injuries at Barca and also not featured much for them. He'd probably passed his peak by the time he joined us.

Keane at liverpool. I was actually genuinely excited when we signed him and thought he was gonna be really good. Major flopped.

What about Ronaldo at Internazionale?

Played 99 games scored 59 goals, voted 20th in their all time top players. Only his injuries did for him then. Can't see how he could be seen as a failure. He was a total shithouse though the way he bailed on them to Madrid after they did everything to get him fit again.

Compared to Ronaldo at Barca though? Just seemed like he was a bit disappointing.
