Most of us pretty much agreed our season started after the united game. If we go on and beat Reading, we're looking at 7 pts from a possible 9. Which isn't a bad return considering the situation. A decent bit better than a fair few of the predictions flying around before the run.

However, looking at a couple of threads since the Stoke game, there's still a bit of pessimism around. We've played well in the majority of games. Other than the West Brom game where we collapsed. Take that result away and our season has a completely different look.

So after Reading game. We have

Everton
Newcastle
Chelsea
Wigan

Obviously a return to some of the tougher teams. Although we've had good results against Everton, Newcastle and Chelsea in the last couple of season. Wigan seems to be a bogey team for us over the years. So with that, what's everyone predicting for these games? Customary big win, followed by a loss to Wigan?

Your thread centres around an "if" mate. "If we beat Reading..."

I'm as bullish about Rodgers and what we're trying to be as the next man. But. We've got 6 points from a possible 21, that's where we're at, and people have a right to be pessimistic if they like.

That's fair enough mate. I get where your coming from. But it's all small margins. We were robbed by United. Really should've beat City. I don't think it's that much of a leap to assume we should be able to beat Reading. At least we appear to have a direction and purpose this season.

What do you think we'll get out of these next few games Ryan? Other than a tonking 😛

We might beat Reading & Wigan. The other 3 we'd do well to get draws from I guess.

We really need to start putting some points on the board. I'm hoping it will all click and we go on a run. Not sure if it's wishful thinking or not.
Just need Shelvey back and we're in business. (insertwinksmiley here)

See I don't get that attitude. We can maybe beat Reading? Wigans always a toss up but still. Are we really playing that badly that were not even confident going into a game with Reading?

Also? anything goes in the derby. Form is out the window. How many times have we gone into it playing badly and come away with a win. Newcastle are not as strong as last year. They're defense is makeshift right now. Chelsea could easily be a battering though.

We got 1 point from a possible 6 out of games against West Bromwich Albion and Stoke.

You're the one asking for perspective.

As Ryan says its a big if. Maybe we should beat them, but we've been in relegation form since january.
Its a big fucking mountain to climb and we need some points on the board.

Nothing is certain when we are concerned these days, but hopefully we'll get 3 points.

Fellaini is injured when we play Everton so that increased our chances of getting a result against Everton

I never get the 'If' arguement.

They didnt win, they didnt play well enough, they didnt create that extra scoring opportunity. If is just an excuse for not being good enough.

And it wears thin when it's been said for about a year.

We aren't unlucky, we're just bad right now.

I think it's a bit of a joke really all this negativity. I can see why people would be disheartened. But we were never gonna come out the traps flying. Especially with the fixtures we've had. 3 of the toughest teams in the league. Yet we looked more than capable of beating 1 of em, and we were robbed by the other. This is what I mean by perspective. Our only really poor performance was West Brom.

I guess what's getting me is, you can already see people are soon gonna be turning on Rodgers. But then again, we've got people in this thread that haven't bothered to even try and back any of our last 3 managers.

We all know we're crying out for a striker. But there's nothing we can do till jan. So lets at least support the team, try and get some positives out of this. Rather than whining about managers and certain players like we've done for the last three years.

Surely I can't be the only glass half full on here? Surely? Lol

There's reasons for optimism long term if you are so inclined, but this isn't one of them. The argument you are making is illogical.

You are saying, if we win this next game, and I then cherry pick my data, I can make it look good.

The colocated argument would be, if we lose this next game, and I look at the entire season, or even stretching back through last season, we're in relegation form.

I just feel if you look at each game individually over the stretch of a season, our results are pretty much to be expected.

City 1-1 decent result.
2-0 loss Arsenal. Pretty much run of the mill for us.
Sunderland 1-1 about usual. Away from home, not a terrible result.
2-1 loss to united. Even though we got robbed. Shoulda been ours.
5-2 Norwich
1-1 with Stoke. They were barely in it.

Obviously our major disappointment is the West Brom game. I'm not saying we're world beaters here or anything like that. But seriously what was everyone expecting? Our teams filled with youngsters or new players to our squad. It was gonna take time. We're only gonna get better as Lucas comes back and January approaches.
I guess I've just had enough of this "we're shit" business

I was expecting very little. That's why I'll be very happy if we beat Reading. It's also why I'm not certain we'll beat Reading.

We'll probably beat Chelsea 5-0 and lose the rest.
Realistically, we should beat Reading & Wigan, who knows with the rest? I'd fancy the other teams to be fair.
We're in trouble without those 6 points.

I think you about right fark. I think that's why I'm not as down as some others. I wasn't expecting a lot.

Although I can see us beating Everton and Newcastle.

Er, wasn't it 2-2 against City and 0-0 against Stoke?

Ya sorry mate. Rushed a reply at work. Regardless you get my point. I feel I didn't get my point across. I'm not trying to tell everyone to get a grip. Just that let's take a different look at things. It's not all doom and gloom. And we're certainly not "shit".

Our results are shit but our play has improved. I know results are be all and end all but it was always going to be a working progress this year. So I'm kinda not that bothered but get quite excited when our play yields results (like Norwich).

The players have got the basics in how Rodgers wants to play, but silly errors, and kinks in the system has caused us to draw games we could have won (City). Still get the odd game when we don't turn up (Arsenal) and when it all goes wrong (West Brom).

Getting into top 6 and a cup or two should set us up for a good following season.

Its impossible to predict any of our results tbh. We can hope for a win, but nothing is a certain these days with us. We just dont have enough quality.
