It's not the law. But wheter it's a "successful" tackle or not, is at the referee's discretion.

@Fabio as I said to you on FB, I don't believe the touch Adrian got on the ball can be seen as a "proper" tackle. Therefore he pulled Flanno down, and a penalty was the correct decision.

However, I don't think the referee could've seen the touch on the ball, from where he was positioned. He gave the penalty because all he saw was Flanno being fouled.

Fair enough if the player doesn't tick the other box about interfering with play. If he *is* interfering with play there's nothing "retarded" about being naffed off about it.

My point is that refereeing is never going to be accurate unless they use video.

So if someone scores a goal while being, say, 1 cm offside you should take it on the chin and move on because it is not realistic to expect laser precision. The ref is not an "idiot" or "blind", you were not "cheated" out of a win or whatever. 30 years ago no one would have had a clue if you were offside or not, and refs are no better equipped to decide now than they were then. It should be considered within the margin of error, and instead of blaming the referee you should focus on being less shit at defending.

It is similar to when a throw-in is incorrectly given to a team just inside the opponents half, and they proceed to score from it. The "victims" will furiously blame the referee, but should really look closer to home. What percentage of throw-ins lead to goals?

It's got fuck all to do with the trajectory of the ball! That's a symptom, not the vital factor. The real criterion is whether the attacker is effectively dispossessed or not.

True, but in terms of goalkeepers and pens they have to visibly alter the trajectory of the ball in any coming together of players (which in itself may result in dispossession), otherwise the ref will nearly always blow.
