Not good.

Miralem Pjanic claims Lyon team-mate Karim Benzema is close to completing a £38million move to Manchester United.

Benzema has been a long-term target for United, with Lyon prepared to listen to offers if the France international expresses a wish to move.

Reports had previously claimed that Benzema was willing to spend one more season with Lyon in order to maximise his prospects of playing at the 2010 World Cup.
However, he could now be on his way to Old Trafford after Pjanic revealed the 21-year-old is ready to link up with the Premier League champions.

Nearly gone

"Benzema is nearly gone to Old Trafford," Pjanic told Bosnian website Sportsport.

"The English club are willing to pay €45million (£38million) for him and it is just a question of the day when he will move to England.

"He does not have anything against going to Manchester. Our side will be reinforced by Lisandro Lopez, the Argentine forward from Porto."

Real Madrid and Arsenal had also been linked with the striker, but it appears United have won the race to sign the coveted Benzema.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is striving to replace Carlos Tevez following the end of the Argentine's two-year loan and Benzema looks to be his top target.

Ferguson has money to spend following the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and wrapped up the signing of Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic on Tuesday evening.

If United have gone and spunked 15 million on Valencia, I think that is excellent news for us.
Im sure ferguson had a huge budget even before the £80 million from the Ronaldo sale....so in a way it doesnt really matter coz theyll still have enough cash to afford multiple players that we cant.

Benzema and Valencia were always favourites to be the main purchases to the mancs.
You would have to think that at an estimated £55m that will be about it for their spending. Maybe a centre midfielder too, but im pretty happy.....tell you who wont be, Wayne Rooney. That personell will almost certainly be
----carrick-fletcher
valencia-berbatov-rooney
--------benzema-------

ronaldo was worth 25 goals min to them - valencia will never get that many, Benzema might though. If they sign him, I hope he spends the majority of his first season adapting to the game and doesn't to a torres.

Valencia scored a staggering 7 goals in 83 matches for Wigan.

That's all

I remain unconvinced that Benzema will be as good in this league as some people think. I don't doubt he will get goals and look impressive at times, but is he capable of getting 20 or more? I don't think so.

Kevin Doyle to Wolves for 6.5M.

Good deal that, he'll score 15-20 next season.
is he really that good? don't know much about him but would be very impressed if he stepped up and scored that many.

I hope he does well for them. But it will be tough soring 20 goals in a team that will probably strugle.

Well he scored freely in his first season in the Premiership, and struggled in his second year mostly due to injury. He was outstanding in parts for Reading last season ending up with 19 goals I think, and leading to them turning down a 9M bid from Villa for him in January.

He's got about 30 caps for Ireland now too, and has looked impressive most times.

6.5M for a young International striker that has proven capability of scoring in the Premier League is pretty good.

Pretty much every paper is running with this Benzema to United story.

I gotta say, this one worried me a lot more than the Antonion Valencia signing.

That cunt could be their Torres.

can't see him doing it, we'll see.

Theres no way Doyle will get 15+ goals next year Ryan.
I dont disagree hes got talent, but Wolves are shit with a manager who we already know struggles at this level.
If he was going to Villa or Everton then id say maybe 15. Wolves though? Na.

Yeah right, the Wolves strikers probably won't score 20 between them, let alone him doing that on his own
Sorry to look like im disagreeing with you on everything, but hes only a 1 in 3 striker in the best team in a substandard league. Im really not overly concerned if they get him. Ribery, Villa, Eto'o yeah..benzema not so much.

I don't think Benzema will go to Mancs this season, he seems pretty adamant that he wants to play in Ligue 1 till after the World Cup

Torres had a similar record at Atletico.

There's a lot to be said for strikers going to quality teams, and dramatically changing their sxcoring records; Dwight Yorke, Torres, Adebayor, etc.

From what I've see of Benzema, he looks outstanding. With the opportunities he'd get playing in that team, he'd score a fucking bagful.

^^^

What he said.

Benzema's probably going to become a star-player somewhere. United seems a good call.

But he will not score anywhere near the same ammount of what Torres managed in his first Season.

United will struggle with or without Benzema , Ribery etc. this coming Season mind. So will Chelsea. And Arsenal's team is probably still a wee bit to young to amek it count and they certainly lacks strength in central midfield.

It really looks like it's going to be our Season doesn't it?

Doesn't look so gr8 now does it...

He certainly won't lack for ammunition, I am sure that, in home games at least, Wolves will start with 2 wingers; Kightly and Jarvis. After that it will depend on how well he gels with Ebanks-Blake.

If Doyle scores 10+ and Ebanks-Blake 12+ (Kightly will chip in with 5 or 6) it will give Wolves a chance of survival.

Surely it's a bit early to start saying it's going to be our season.
That's extremely premature of course, but I believe the future is looking very bright from our part of the camp.

I've just checked a few of the bookies - as I convinced myself that we'll win it and was of to make a wager - and they actually seem to agree!?

In decimal odds it says 2,75 for United, 3,25 for Chelsea and 3,75 for us. (If you bet £10 on us you're going to win £37,5). Can't remember us beeing backed that much in many, many years....

You might note that your bookies seem to believe that Utd and Chelsea are more likely to win the league- so they don't wholly agree.

Spot on. the scum would be a fucking nightmare with someone like Villa or Eto'o. Thankfully, Valencia and Benzema are not going to replace the waiter's goals.

And if they do sign Benzema, that means Rooney will be played out for position for another year which is a bonus!

If they sign Benzema, I think it'll be him and Rooney in a 4-4-2 with Berbatov rotating in.

I think they'll go 4-4-2 with rooney again the 'odd man out' and playing a left wingish position.
