Big loss if true. We'll miss his workrate for starters, but he's started to become a real threat. It's going to be interesting to see how Sturridge responds, I still get the feeling he isn't completely a fit for Klopp, he wants an attacker who will defend from the front.

He'd probably be wrapped in cotton wool either way, but I think its pretty obvious he's going to be out for at least 6 weeks. That bitter little scrot has stolen a Europa League Semi Final and potential Final from Divock, and robbed him of his momentum just as he was starting to break out as a very good player.

This injury will set Divocks development back and could cost him a massive chance to fully establish himself on the world stage as he's potentially going to miss the Euro's if there's even moderate ligament damage. All because a shit defender, playing for a shit team, managed by a shit manager, intentionally stamped on a 20 year old striker that he couldn't handle.

This kind of shit makes me so angry, Suarez got 10 odd games for biting a player, leaving the player more bemused than anything else, Mori intentionally stamps on and potentially causes a fellow professionals career a massive set back, yet at the very worst he'll miss three games, because afterall good old fashion thuggery is fine, it's the weird biting shit we don't like.

Horror challenges need to start being treated as seriously as the Suarez incidents were, because as soon as they are, maybe we'll see them stop.
Totally agree!
When Suarez was banned for a crazy number of games for biting an opponent, who didn't even miss a single match, I felt that was way too harsh. Now there's a player who sidelined an opponent for multiple weeks, causing him both real as well as potential damage - what punishment should he get?!

Standard practice in medical world to put an air cast boot on initially post injury. Will help with swelling management and mobility to get round. Just a protective phase to let things settle down.

Come see me Divock I'll have you back in 3 weeks ready for EL final .

His dad said that they dont know how long he's out for yet.
First scan showed ligament damage, the second one will show how long he's out and those results are due tomorrow.
4-6 weeks is guesswork at this stage.

Lets hope he's back as quickly as possible.

Benteke is fit soon though, yay! Or not.

Mike Origi: "I can't confirm my son @DivockOrigi will be out for 4-6 weeks. We still don't know. We all have to wait till tomorrow. " #LFC

I'm absolutely gutted for Origi but I'm not worried.
I asked myself, who's our best striker?
Simple, it's Sturridge.
So why worry?
We're still good.

Liverpool striker Divock Origi won't play again this season.
A scan has confirmed that the Belgium international suffered ligament damage in Wednesday night's 4-0 win over Everton at Anfield.
The exact time frame still isn't clear as Origi will undergo a second second scan on Friday.
However, Liverpool don't expect him to be able to play any part in their push for Europa League glory or their five remaining Premier League matches.
Origi faces a race against time to be fit for the European Championships in France which start on June 10.

Disappointing but not a surprise. Hopefully Klopp can at least use this as a rallying-call for the rest of the squad, especially the strikers.

He's not back to his best yet either. Talent-wise he's the best we've got, but not on current form.

I don't even think that's necessarily the worry JJ. He looks like he's going to score goals, but it's his in ability to defend from the front that sort of undoes Klopp's whole setup. It means that our whole pressing game goes out the window, because you need the front three in tandem and interchanging, constantly pressing the opponent. If one tails off, then the whole thing collapses, we saw it under Rodgers and we saw it when Klopp tried to play Benteke. It's why we ended up playing Firmino, and I wouldn't be surprised if we revert to that again, if Origi is out.

Sturridge has notably improved on pressing in the past few games, so I'm not too worried about that. I think the big downside of losing Origi is different – we are losing the only striker who can fight for and hold up the ball up front. This quality is especially useful when your team is under pressure – that's why Klopp preferred Origi to Sturridge in the Dortmund away game, he expected Dortmund to dominate territory and Origi was offering an outlet that Sturridge doesn't quite provide.

Our remaining league games don't look too hard and we should be OK with Sturridge and Firmino, provided they stay fit (please, God). Villareal away game is probably the only one where we would expect to face some real sustained pressure; it would have been great to have Origi for that game... oh well, let's hope our opponents play that one cautiously.

Let's hope Villareal don't put us under so much pressure in the away game – that would be the only scenario where Origi would be clearly preferable even to an in-form Sturridge. And let's hope we have no more injuries.

I'd imagine in the away game that that's where we'll play Firmino, because he'll slot into the false 9 role and provide a bank of three that will defend from the front. It's not completely ideal, but if it gets the job done then we can unleash Sturridge late on. That was a point I'd missed out, about Origi's hold up play, it's been a big feature for us and our ability to take the pressure off the defensive side of the team. My fear with Sturridge is that, when we're under he cosh, we have no outlet, he's not doing players for pace and he's not as good as Origi when holding up the ball and waiting for others to support him. He'll try to use a bit of skill to keep hold of the ball, and we've seen teams double up on him on the break, to easily quell the threat.

Can't forget that KHL started a thread titled 'IRONMANNN' when he signed.
I can apparently. Do NOT remember that thread, probably because he was a pretty big mistake from start to finish.

If such thread should exist and I've not managed to delete it, in my defense, I had not ONCE suggested we should sign Christian Poulsen. But when we did, yeah, I probably backed him relentlessly for a few minutes.

Villarreal play with a flat 4-4-2 and against attacking teams, tend to be disciplined, sit back and hit on the counter - that's my impression from watching some of their games last season, and I think that expectation probably isn't far off again this season. The fact they don't score and concede much in the league probably squares with my anticipation that it will be pretty much how they play against us.

That gives Klopp the option to match their 4-4-2 with Sturridge and Firmino up front, or to go with Firmino behind Sturridge, flanked by Coutinho and Lallana / Milner / Ibe. I think we have more flexibility against Villarreal than against Dortmund in who to pick up front and how to set up.

Origi's loss is huge, obviously (who would've thought of that early in the season?), but I think we'll miss him less in the EL semis than had we lost him for the quarter finals against Dortmund.
