On the counter ... ball played to Suarez , he knocks it in front of Carroll whose running straight down the middle of the pitch with nobody near him, Keeper comes out and Carroll awkwardly puts it around him from 20 yards out,

I reckon Carroll didn't wanna use his right cos he could see the keeper & both defenders on his right hand side, so hastily knocked it towards his left. Not pretty but it hit the net, which is what counts.
