norwich thoughts

I think the feelgood factor that (1) the new owners and (2) Kenny being appointed, had on the 2nd half of last season is understated. I'm not sure, in a pure football sense, we were as good as the then results suggested. Which is why, now that the honeymoon is over, things look slightly different. Add to that, we haven't spent our money that wisely. In fact, poorly.
Suarez was a good signing and is a great player on his day. However, in the cold light of day, it's obvious he's not quite that top bracket that some of our fans think he is. Sorry but he isn't. He's also pretty loathsome if you ask me. I doubt it keeps him awake at night but that's just my opinion. I've said on here a couple of times, if he played for someone else, he'd be the biggest cunt in the League by a mile.

I do think our form will pick up and we'll score some goals. There is a lot of dross in this Leauge. Disciplined, well organsied dross, but dross all the same. It's a poor League this year, which is why Utd, City and Chelsea will amass sizeable points totals. We just need to make sure we're on 70+, try and nip 4th.

He plays the game. To be honest I don't care, Gerrard does it, Carragher does it, Owen and Fowler did it and a whole host of footballers do it. It's about time everyone accepts this goes on in every game and not be in-dignified by it. They get caught by the Ref then accept the punishment otherwise let them get on with it.

Goals, 3 points and the league (or a trophy). We can play to the 'gentleman' rules when we've consistently won something to stand on our high horse.

After sleeping and waking up and feeling less pissed, here are my thoughts:

1) Wrong starting lineup. We underestimated Norwich, played 2 in midfield and created a huge gap between the CBs and midfielders. It didnt help that we played so deep. How many offsides did Norwich had?

2) CBs had difficulty coping when Holt came on. Seriously, its time to give Coates a go. I think Crump said he couldnt be any worse than Skrtel? I agree. Agger's back too, what have Skrtel and Carragher done to not be dropped?

3) Was Kelly injured? He was not even on the bench. Harsh to drop him after a good performance against the scum.

4) Our build up was ponderous at times. I was wondering to myself why we couldnt play like Norwich at times. Their passing and movement were a joy to watch. We're supposed to have better players, wtf happened?

5) A lot have covered the weird subs, I agree with all of them. Seriously, wtf?

6) Yes we were profligate; but we should have played better and not let Norwich pen us back.

7) Johnson didnt play very badly and I guess he's not match fit yet. Also, we have been conceding goals even without him in the side so I wouldnt single him out.

8.) I am getting pissed off again typing all these.
 
This is the kind of game where i think Meireles would have made the difference. It's a shame for everyone that he now rots in Chelsea bench while we have lost the player who was a big part of most things positive about our last season.

Downing..well he has played like how i expected him to. He still improves the team, mind. But it's not enough to fork out 20 million. It's a bad signing from that point of view and Kenny had made a rod for his own back by over-spending on some players. That was my only fear during the transfer winodw...........

I'll tell you what would have been an even better idea.

Don't spend 35 fucking million pound on him when he's quite clearly not suited to us, and then compound it even further by waxing another fucking 20 million on a shit winger who can't even provide a bastarding assist.

Spend that 55M on better players WHO ACTUALLY FIT IN OUR TEAM.
 
The match yesterday confirmed what I've been saying since the start of the season. Downing is a fucking average winger, Suarez is all too much hype, Carroll is just another overpriced average English striker.


We were fucking happy Suarez outrun opposition defenders, beat them with silky skills, dribbling etc etc but at the end of the day a good fucking striker score goals. He didn't. I don't give a flying fuck what he did during the match, i only give a fuck if he score goals.


Now we're fucked and with Suarez and Carroll not scoring goals plus Kuyt suddenly became average this couple of weeks. I am really disappointed with the result last night. Plenty of chances and we didn't take it.


Special mention to Adam and Bellamy. Both of them worked hard. Never gave up attitude. Good. The rest of them can fuck right off together with Kenny's shit substitution. Another 2 points lost at home. Shit.

In my opinion the criticism of Suarez is ridiculous. The guy played out of his skin against Norwich. But he isn't a striker.

Woeful finishing, no killer instinct and it looks like we forgot how to win.

Bellamy should be starting every game. Downing hasn't proven his worth and Enrique looks our best transfer deal by a mile. Suarez needs a kick up his arse. Where is his killer touch?

from what I've seen this season our problem isn't creating chances (so it's a little pointless bemoaning the loss of meireles) our problem is finishing chances. our last two games should have been won at a canter.

we've been utilising kuyt and suarez up front and they haven't been scoring, suarez is untouchable so it's time to bring carroll in from the cold (who actually has actually scored in his last two games). drop kuyt who seems to be entering his 'winter slump' that you can set your watch by.

I fucking despise the use of the term "big game player". Its fucking bullshit. All fucking games are big games when you want to place anywhere near the top of the fucking league.

People bemoaned garcia for being fucking inconsistent, but at least SOMETHING might happen with him against a norwich. Kuyt only turns up against the big teams (which he doesn't)

Downinng and Bellamy both have pace - check. Its all about finding the right balance isnt it? No brainer.

Have we gained more points with him the side? Yes.

I cant be bothered about this thread anymore, and its better to look forward to what we can do rather what we have done.
Change it against Stoke and go from there. We're not far off finding a good mix and balance. But onemore thing:

What bothers me though is how we utilize our players. Andy Carroll played off the defenders shoulder and was a battering ram at Newcastle. Lead the line and occupied entire defences on his own and was unplayable at times.

We use him behind Suarez, dropping deep to get involved in the build up and he finds himself everywhere else but infront of the goal.

Suarez, who played off another striker at Ajax, and is clearly better suited to that then leading the line and is now being used upfront on his own.

I'd like to see Suarez playing off Carroll and just let them play some games together.
Letting them develop in their natural positions is exactly what they and the team needs. The goals will come.

Steve Clarke must be partly culpable for all of this. I thought he was a great defensive organiser, amongst many other positive epithets that got mentioned last season after games like Fulham away.

Despite Reina missing that cross, one of our CBs should have been able to clear that ball. They almost gifted Norwich another goal, but Reina pulled of a nice reflex save.

Cost us 2 points against Man U as well.
