Liverpool striker David Ngog has been approached by Cameroon to play for the African country.

Ngog, who has played for France from Under 16 level through to Under 21, qualifies for Cameroon through his father.

Cameroon coach Paul Le Guen is keen for Ngog to change his allegiance ahead of the African Cup of Nations and World Cup.

If Ngog decides to play for Cameroon it could leave Liverpool with problems in attack for January as Cameroon are involved in the African Cup of Nations in Angola at the turn of the year.

Ngog admits he is flattered by the approach and he is now considering his international future.

"I have had contact with the Cameroonian federation. Now I need some time to think about things. I'm very flattered," Ngog told The Lying Rag.

Italy manager Marcello Lippi has opened the door for Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani to earn a place in his 2010 World Cup squad.

The injury-prone former Roma player has yet to start a match since a £20million summer move to Anfield after undergoing ankle surgery in the summer.

A virus has also restricted Aquilani to just two appearances for Liverpool, but he now looks set to be named in Rafa Benitez's first XI against Manchester City on Saturday.

All eyes will be on the 25-year-old if he does start against City, including those of international boss Lippi who has offered the added incentive of a World Cup place.

"I have a varied group and it needs to be complete," said Lippi in The Times.

"If I haven't considered a certain player, then why should I not consider him if the conditions are right?

"Look at Aquilani for example. If he plays with consistency for Liverpool, then why shouldn't I consider him?"

He'll end up playing for them. The chance of playing in a World Cup is a big thing for a player to turn down

And the African Cup of Nations as well ? ?

I'm afraid that would be inevitable.

By the looks of it I can't see why Ngog shouldn't make it to the French squad really.

Gignac, Henry and Anelka are not exactly setting the world alight.

He shouldn't right now, but the current cycle of French cycle is kinda coming to an end. Treze is gone, Henry won't be around for much longer... maybe he could find himself a spot in that squad next time round.

It'll depend on the stars I reckon....

He wont go for it. Not a chance.
He's a confident lad and will back himself to make it for Les Blues.
Ive seen him handle the ball once or twice, so he should be fine.

Wash has always shown that strange habit of reaching out to the ball with his hand. Maybe they do a special training session on it at the French academy.

Khl, let's get real now.. N'Gog is nowhere near good enough to be considered for a squad place for France.

He isn't and won't ever be a starting striker for us as long as we have Torres.

He's a decent back-up striker, don't get me wrong, but compare him with other french strikers around. Like that Piquionne guy at Portsmouth, N'Gog isn't better than him, and Piquionne doesn't make the squad.

I think I agree with this, after the old guard retires, it's Benzema and ...................................................... who else?

Gignac
Piquionne
Cisse
Saha
Gomis
Hell.. Even Pongolle.

Maybe I don't watch enough international footy, but Saha is broken, when's the last time Cisse played for the internationals, and I think the same is probably said for Pongolle. But Gignac, piquionne, and Gomis are a good shout.

That's really a nothing statement though isn't it. Who wouldn't be in the same boat?

N'gog has continued improving since he joined us and if you've watched him play for the French youth teams you'll have seen that there is a side to his game that either because of his role or maybe his physical development that he doesn't show for us. He's a far more versatile and skillful player than his liverpool performances would have you believe. Over time I can see us going back to a 442 and he'll get plenty of games.

On another note, I wish that when N'Gog or whomever talks to a foriegn paper, and the story is taken on, why does it always say "Told the scum..."?

Highly doubt he'd pick Cameroon. Imo he's got a pretty decent chance at playing for France. He's still young, why tie himself down to Cameroon so early?

ngo always moves his hand toward the ball when he jumps. it's very odd. must be a french thing.

What a silly list. Piquionne and Saha are both over 30, Cisse isn't far off whilst Gignac and Gomis have yet to prove themselves at the very top level either.

I know all of us have a soft spot for him but he has scored 6 goals in 40 games for A. Madrid last season and has 1 in 10 this season. He may be more experienced but I have no doubt that Ngog will be a better striker than him if he continues developing at the same rate.

If what you stated above materialised, then sure, he'd make the team no problem.

As it stands now though, he's a young, unproven striker, playing second fiddle to Fernando Torres.

It's like United fans advocating Macheda being called up by Italy.

They much better than France!
