Most disappointing LFC signing

Now this could be that he was shit before we signed him or became shit after. Mine has to be Alberto Aquilani, the guys was a monster waste of cash and cemented my view that Italians should never play for LFC.

Fernando Morientes

Big name, big reputation, great season with Monaco beforehand (from what I recall). We had all the drama of his plane landing and clandestine photos of his arrival. Then it just didn't work out.

^^

This..

Closely followed by Mark Gonzalez..

The hype around him, Everyone had thought we had found the next Ronaldo..

Turned out he was a bit shit really...

I think Aquillani is a good shout.

Morientes - like Riedle - came when he was already past it so the expectation was more down to hope than logic.

Cisse was another big disappointment; the fact we'd agreed the deal so long before he arrived, and the hype about what a lightning fast and exciting player he was had gone on for so long, didn't help, but it was a huge let down when he finally arrived.

I literally thought Cisse was the one.

I've gotta say I was super hyped for Firmino too.. Hopefully he'll return a bit more ready than before

I think Cisse is right up there for a player arriving who I thought would do something great.

I'm usually disappointed that we're actually thinking of signing player X cos I know they'll be shite. Rather than being disappointed afterwards.

Definitely Morientes for me. He was one of my favourite players from when he played at Zaragoza.

Out of all the big money signings, I reckon Collymore might have been the most disappointing as he had every physical attribute and still managed to blow it.

Probably Diouf. He looked great in the World Cup and actually looked pretty lively in his first couple of games for us, then not only became a bloody awful player but also a cunt.

I was disappointed that Cisse only played in a winning European Cup and FA Cup final and scored in both 😉

I was much more disappointed in Kewell's time with us, especially after a bright start.

Istvan kozma. No one had heard of him before the news broke in the echo (before internet). As he was brought in from Scotland we assumed he was some gem that Souness had the inside track on ...

Cisse was my first thought too. I genuinely thought that one couldn't go wrong, but he was such an unbelievably limited player. Huge money for the time, too.

Babel was one I wasn't particularly excited by because I'd had reservations based on the small amount I'd seen of him, but I still thought he'd be much better than he was.

Also, I expected Markovic to be WAY better than he has been.

Who was it on kt who had the signature "cisse is the french heskey until proven othetwise"? I hated that pessimism, even though it turned out right

I don't remember. That kind of pessimism winds me up too. Origi is currently the subject of a lot of it, which is a shame because there's promise there.

Nobody that I have had high hopes for has really disappointed me, as I usually didn't know enough about the player to have an opinion before they arrived.

Morientes, I did know about, but was never convinced he'd be a success in the Premiership; too immobile.

Maybe Collymore. Didn't really have any weaknesses as a player, apart from what was inside his head.

Kewell's disappointment after a brilliant start was largely down to injury.

Cisse and Aquilani mostly because they replaced Owen and Alonso and you can't help but compare.

Lovren is well on the way to being added to the list.

Never replace a star at Liverpool. You're doomed.

Harry Kewell.

Not the worst signing, but definitely the most disappointing, because of what he had achieved for Leeds previously, and the fact that he was coming in to fill our problem position at the time. Remember where I was when I heard we were in for him on the radio, and thought what a complete no-brainer it was and how he would instantly improve us; and how fantastic it was that we were going to get him over and above some serious competition.

Followed by years of 'meh' punctuated with shouts of "you big fucking fanny".

Surprised no ones mentioned Carroll.... I know every West Ham fan is ruing tgat day. Mind you coupling that with the Downing signing is surely up there.

There have been some bad ones - but surely none can rival when Real Madrid raped us for Michael Owen, and couldn't let it rest there - oh no, they had to rub our noses in it and offload Nunez to us as part of the deal! Massively hyped by Rafa, he got injured in training and was truly abysmal when he did turn out for us. If memory serves he 'starred' in our glorious 'performance' in the cup away at Burnley, when Bambi on ice entered into LFC folklore

Sahin for me. I was genuinely really excited at his arrival. I know it was only a loan signing but madrid wanted rid at the time so had it gone well im sure we could have made it permenant. Recent developments make me feel if he was still here he would be one of Klopps main men and would be played in (to paraphrase Klopp) his natural position.

He was excellent his first season with us followed by a lot of disappointments and bad injuries. Rafa had a real soft spot for him too. Throwing him in whenever he was barely back to fitness.

Maybe Morientes for me. Great player, just too late for him to be coming to England I think.

Oh and yeah Speedy Gonzalez is definitely up there.

Finally we were going to get a class pacey attacker to add real menace to our attack... or not.
