Missed a Bullet

Did any Liverpool player - who played more than 10-20 times - never manage at least ONE decent performance?

Amir Zaki...

Although it was a Dreamie sized bullet, so it would be harder to sidestep a charging hamster.

You remember that Ngog dive v Birmingham?
we had to dive to win a pen v birmingham, the struggle was real

Yup

Glorious moment for the lad who's currently playing for Ross county

Weren't we in for Xhaka and Arsenal pipped us to him? I remember watching him for Swtizerland in the last Euro's and being gobsmacked that us and Arse were interested in him but assumed there must be more to him than I was seeing.....there isn't.

Read a great quote from someone the other day about Xhaka...

"His inconsistency is frustrating. He has a knack of looking a million miles off the pace, and then in some other games he can only look a few miles off it"

Though we were never linked to them, these guys never lived up to the hype the following season
Andrea Belotti
Kasper Dolberg
Emil Forsberg

Er.....maybe it was pre-season? I deffo remember being impressed with him at least once.

I admit that's not really much of an endorsement. Certainly not anything on a Messi level
Joe Cole was sent off on his debut against Arsenal. Game was 0-0. Your man with the shaved head we signed from the Belgium club also made his league debut for us?

The one good Joe Cole game you're thinking of is probably the Bolton game where he scored a late winner. Woy celebrated on the line as if we'd won a cup.

What a signing he was...

Don't know about Belotti, but Forserg is still very, very good. Hasn't he been injured? Could be one of the stars of the World Cup, he's that good (whether Sweden in general is good enough, is a different Q all together).

And Dolberg's had a dry run in the first months of his second season, correct, and then he got injured which he is still recovering from.

Sounds dangerously like the Viktor Fischer path (he got injured while at Ajax didn't he and never properly recovered?)

He'll be at a North East team before you know it

The Michael Owen return would have been very underwhelming. I'm glad that never happened.

That's a great shout. Maybe things would've turned out different had he joined us but it's doubtful. 5 years, 100K a week (back when that was at the top end of the pay scale) and very little return. Ouch.

What do you think of Jannik Vestergaard?
Well, that's a good question really.

He's got some very obvious key attributes (he's about 2 metres tall with a strong athletic build) like heading, aerial command and the physical battles at set-pieces etc. His passing skills are good and he's decent on the ball.

However he's always had a tendency to lose concentration and suddenly misplace a simple pass or drift out of position. He's also not blessed with pace.

He's 25-year-old now and I honestly haven't seen him play at all this season so I am not the best one to ask about current form (he's injured for the time being) but he's got quite some praise in the German medias this season for Gladbach. Played 26 games so far scoring three goals in the making.

Is probably going to be in the world cup squad but he's behind Kjaer, Christensen and probably also Bjelland (Brentford),which I honestly do find a bit odd. The Danish national coach is a Norwegian mind so go figure.. there'll be some odd calls.. 🙂

Certainly knows how to score goals with his head;
