Statistics are so shit I hate them. But the above means that without him two seasons ago we would have won an extra game in every 10. Therefore handing us the league by 7.4 points. Screw you Mascherano.....its all your fault 😱......see, statistics make me cry!!

Yeah, my recollection of it is that he was played against shit opposition too, even at home. People often complained about it saying he wasn't needed. I can't be bothered checking the list of fixtures he missed though.

Also, we won most or all of the big games against the top4 in the runners up season - it's not like we always lost those games.

I think he missed so few games that the statistics are practically an anomoly, so by no means should we place much importance upon them, nor make faulty assumptions.

I don't believe he was frequently rested against weak opposition. Benitez had him as one of the first names on the teamsheet, regardless of the opposition we faced.
