Man City (a)

I'm not going to diss Pepe for that. Y'all know I think he's past his best but every other time he runs after a striker in that position nothing happens. It was one of the best goals you'll ever see.

I'm not even 100% convinced Aguero meant to score ... his eyes didn't look up so either it was a 'hit an hope' or, which is what I think, he was trying to cross it for Dzeko who would be expected to be in that position. We'll never know.

I saw a couple of City employees saying on Twitter that we were the best team to have played at the Ethiad this year.
Yet some dont think it was a good performance.

But didn't Yaya Toure say that the first time we played them - that was one of the hardest or most competitive games he's played in England. I don't want to sound like a whiney negative type but I think we can maybe file City under 'teams that have a hard time against us' along with Norwich and hopefully many more in the future.

However there's no doubt we played well and I thought we were holding the lead a lot better than we did against Arsenal just the stupid mistake cost us so that's an obvious improvement.

City looked tired and they would have been a tougher prospect with Kompany and Toure in the team, but you can only play against what's there and the performance as a whole was very good. It's just important now to maintain that level and style.

Haven't been able to read the entire topic so apologies if this has been answered already, but is Sterling injured? Why didn't Brendan bring him on in the second half against Arsenal to run at Santos and against City when Stew hadn't really been effective in the second half?

I wish he wasn't even on the bench. He needs a complete break for a couple of weeks.

Worst of these occassional scorers is a centre back that has scored seven times against us, three for Spurs.

.... when Stew hadn't really been effective in the second half?

I think he was effective all match (as witnessed by the number of people on here voting him in their Top 3). He was also very effective tracking back and worked very well with Johnson in defence and bringing it out.

Sorry Rurik but that's just plain wrong. They, clearly, are a very good team.

They didn't win the PL by being mediocre, they didn't not concede a goal in the PL and FAC for 6 games before yesterday by being mediocre either. They have had some issues this season with scoring enough goals (leading to their CL exit) but they are still comfortably in the Top 2 team's in the country and to suggest Arsenal, the epitome of inconsistency, are a better team is way off base.

It seems it is the norm on here that if we lose we give ourselves a real good kicking and if we do well then it's because the other team isn't much kop or had an off day. I haven't seen any team this season dominate City as we did yesterday.

I stand by what I said. Arsenal is a more coherent team than City. But City has better individual players.

We are also a more coherent team than City at this point, which is why we were able to dominate them in both games despite having a much weaker squad. To succeed in football, just like in everything else, you need 2 things - idea and execution. City right now are a team without an idea. We have an idea, but keep messing up the execution. But I'd rather be in our shoes than theirs.

A team without an idea? In 2013 they had played 6 games, winning 5 and 1 draw. Without conceding a goal.
They've also lost 1 of the last 45 home games.

They're doing something right...

Where is the gif for Aguero's goal? Then we can argue intelligently. hrummmpph

I'm not convinced that the fucker was not shot-come-crossing it. He knew it would be around the right place if he missed, but wasn't allout going for the goal. He had his back to goal the bastard..

This is what I believe. He didn't look up to see where the goal was and knew that Dzeko would be arriving in and around that area. Cross for me .... or not 😉

I don't think you actually need to look up to shoot in that situation. There's the markings for the 18-yard box on the pitch and you could get a good feel of where you are from there, plus with Reina shadowing him, he'd know that the goalmouth is empty and that any shot in that general direction would have a good chance. This being Aguero, I'd be more inclined to believe he knew what he was doing.

Really? If he tried that 100 times he maybe would have got it in the goal once or twice, notwithstanding the fact that he couldnt see if anyone was defending the goal, surely he was crossing to Dzeko who would be in a much better position to get a shot on target.

I reckon he went for it, otherwise he knows he could easily round Reina and carefully put the ball at the head or feet of any number of oncoming City players. Whereas by taking the shot he knew Reina wasn't going to be there and he had already left Skyrtel for dead

He's gone for goal.

It was complete brilliance.
