So Johnson had just suddenly found his form again for the end of the season dilemma of a new contract or not . Coincidence? Has he just lost weight and re-focused after a break injured?

I expect he will start in Brazil and if he does well we could get some tempting offers.

If we assume flano on the left should we keep magic?

Deal or no deal ?

As a fan I am generally less bothered about what we pay players (although wont be when FFP kicks in) - I do rate Johnson and would definitely want to keep him in the side but we need to accelerate the process of replacing him, although it is starting to look like that could be Flanno which would be idea.

Is has the ability to be one of our best performers so when fit I would want to see him starting.

Or, he was playing with niggling injuries constantly (as our manager told us) & is now playing without pain.

He's a world class player & easily our best full back, as I've said throughout the stick he's been getting.

All that said, his style of play relies on some pace & fitness, so a long expensive contract is a risk. I'd put it to him simply. You want 100k then it's a yearly contract. You ask for 70k it's a 2 year contract. Simple as that.

I still wouldn't keep him for another 2-3years on 120k a week upwards. If he was willing to take a pay cut down to 70k or something as FFF said, then no problem.
I'd read somewhere that he's already on 100k and wanted 150k, as he's 29 and this would be his last big contract.

Greedy twats. How is £70k not enough. Madness.

First of all, he's been Playing with injuries most of the season his lack of form shouldn't be moaned about but commended for trying to help the team.
Rodgers should have rested him.

He looks sharp now and is getting back to the player bought he is top class.

As for the 70k being enough?
Would you take a 40% pay cut in your job, especially if there are other employers willing to offer more?

I think the % argument doesn't really work when tbd lower number still gives you Millions per year

But, I have indeed turned down 40% pay rises before to stay in a place I'm comfortable working in, a company on the up and to be near where I currently live.

He should stay

Even if I were bothered about the salary, it would depend on whether there *are* other employers willing to offer more, which may or may not be true for a defender of Magic's age, however good he is.

The agent probably royally fucks it up for everyone aswell, Johnson might be willing to stay for the same money etc, but his agent might be having none of it, making stupid demands. Not to mention fat signing on fees for the both of them.
