Vladders, there's no way I think Lucas is a better DM than Masher.

What I was wondering was whether the style of football we're playing was better suited to having 2 CM's like Spearing and Lucas sharing both offensive and defensive work; or whether what we're seeing now is only a result of Gerrard's absence.
I know it's not about comparing like for like or not, the player of the season chart does not do that either.
You touched on a good point there Avvy, the nub of this is what happens when Gerrard is fit next season and we have new players on-board with at least one good wide player, then we won't have to push central midfielders or Dirk out wide to either accommodate them or have to fill holes. Kenny is going to be in the nice position of having to make some hard decisions.
It will be about who accompanies Stevie in the middle as the favoured pairing, I suspect it will be Ming and Stevie.
I always said the measure of our progression will be when Dirk and Lucas are not automatic choices, both have gone up in my estimation over the last six months, but neither should be an ever-present automatic choice.
As the more cerebral posters have said Lucas is no more than a good to average midfielder, he may progress even more, I hope so, who knows , but I will give credit when and where it is due, but I refuse to join in this sheep-like adulation.

The only problem with what you say there Vlads, is that when all three were fit, Kenny opted to pair Gerrard with Lucas, I think.
But not with any great success.
2 - 0 V Stoke
1 - 0 V Chelsea
1 - 3 V West Ham
3 - 1 v Utd

Also lost 1 - 0 to Utd on the day Stevie was sent off.

How much do people think Lucas would fetch this summer if we were to put him on the market?
I'd guess at around £7mil

So, considerably less that the 20m+ fee that Masher would command? That has to be nonsense! Go check your sums and get back to me.

7 million for Lucas is a rubbish quote. Especially if some of you lot are quoting fees like 25 million for Aly Cissokho and Eden Hazard in the rumour mill thread!

Edit - Three Players thread!
I'm not sure if I'm honest, It wont matter anyway because he's going nowhere. But compared to some of the potential prices of our targets 7 million for Lucas is a joke.
I added 1mil to that figure as well because he's Brazilian.

Anderson was about 18m. So was Carrick. We want 16m for Aquilani.

Lucas would easy fetch between 10 and 15 million.
Probably closer to 10 like but a 24 year old who plays for Liverpool and Brazil doesnt go for peanuts. Especially given the shiny new 5 year deal.
I for one hope he stays. I like him a lot and i saved the picture of him in Alder hey with a santa hat on.

And £7m has no relation to current market values or even reality, really.

We got several offers around the £7M mark last summer and turned them down.

Now after a decent season and brazilian caps under his belt, Id say £10M-12M represents his real value.

Well if thats how you're working it out KK (which is a bit daft really), i'd like to point out that Tioté signed for the barcodes for £3.5mil. Soooo considering he's twice as good as Lucas, i'm altering my valuation of LL to £1.75mil.

I still don't really rate Lucas. He's doing alright at the moment, I'll give him that, but I don't think it's all that special.

When Gerrard is fit, he deserves to be dropped the most to make way.

Spearing is a better DM, like I said ages ago.
THIS!

He was pretty fucking good against Fulham. For the 1st goal an excellent pass to Suarez rips Fulham defence apart. For the 2nd he sends an inch perfect pass to Johnson down the channel - Johnson doesnt even have to take a touch before he crosses. Some great tackling and interceptions, got several free kicks, etc etc. But yeah, that is not the Lucas I remember for the vast majority of his time with us. Rather I remember the Lucas who would be completely invisible for entire games, except when he would give away needless free kicks on the edge of our box. I am delighted to see him improving, but he has a way to go before he can be compared to Masher. If he can play like he did against Fulham for a full season we should see his price tag double.

From that day forward he shall be known as Hyper Lucas!

Edit - Or from the day he should recieve the chance, and then take said chance of raping Maicon!

I think the problem in this thread is some people have selective memories and/or are unable to tell the difference between a good to average midfielder and a world class defensive midfielder , some shite has been spouted in this thread.

End thread.
Well yeah there's an element of that I'd agree with I suppose.

By the same token though Vladimir, some people - like yourself - seem unwilling to give Lucas the credit he now deserves due to the absolute shellacking you've doled out to him for the last 3/4 years.

It goes both ways.

Mark Wright said it best today on LFC TV. "Even when he's had bad games he hasn't hidden away and thats why he was blamed for so much, even when he was having a bad game he kept trying for 90 minutes". The fact that he was blamed for so much as a youngster is the main fact that people don't want to give credit where credit is due....because they dont want to admit they could have been wrong! He's built his career in england and has taken everything on the chin. Some people want him gone in the summer but I reckon he'll be a cornerstone of Kennys liverpool. Agree or disagree you cant knock the fact that he's done whats asked of him and has grown as a player in front of us.

Stevies always said he was a player.
Rafa stood by him to the end.
Kenny has re-invented him.

The least we can do is back him,
And the sooner we all get behind the Kid the fucking better!!

I don't think he's a hugely talented player - never will - but he's got a brilliant attitude and a decent set of basic skills. Put them two together and you've got an effective player who is worthy of a place in the Liverpool squad.

I never thought id be trying to advocate Lucas, but youre right with saying he has a brilliant attitude and a decent set of basic skills. Last season i said he had to beef up...and he did. Next season in my eyes will be his defining season! No more......but I still reckon the more senior ones on here played their hand on him too soon!
