Galatasaray agree fee with Liverpool for Lucas Leiva

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva is closing in on a transfer away from Anfield this summer.
The defensive midfielder was signed by Rafa Benitez back in 2007 and has spent nine seasons at Liverpool.

The Reds are looking to offload all of their fringe players this summer and after having sold quite a few players already it seems that Lucas is next in line.

The South American defensive midfielder failed to impress Klopp last season and the German is ready to let go of a high earning fringe player now. Turkish side Galatasaray are interested in signing the former Gremio midfielder and according to latest reports, a fee has been agreed.
Recently, Galatasaray’s manager confirmed the club’s interest in Lucas.

Riekerink said: “Lucas is one of the players we are targeting. We have been in discussions and it is true we want an experienced midfielder.”
Apparently Lucas Leiva has accepted a deal worth 2.7 million Euros per-season with Galatasaray and the Turkish side have offered Liverpool a fee of around 2.5 million Euros for the Brazilian.
Lucas has been a loyal servant for Liverpool for almost a decade, but the Brazilian never quite managed to fulfill his potential following his horrible injury against Chelsea in the League cup, a few seasons ago.

A move away from Liverpool could be a blessing in disguise for Lucas. The Brazilian has struggled to play regularly at Anfield over the last few seasons and has therefore been overlooked for the national team.
Regular football with Galatasaray could well open up a door for him once again, as far as a Brazil call up is considered.

Galatasaray step up interest in Lucas Leiva as Jurgen Klopp fights to keep hold of Liverpool midfielder

  • Galatasaray want to offer Lucas Leiva first-team football
  • Jurgen Klopp determined to keep the Liverpool midfielder
  • The Brazilian is not agitating for a move away from Anfield

Galatasaray are stepping up their pursuit of Liverpool’s long serving midfielder Lucas in a move that will leave Jurgen Klopp facing a big decision.
Lucas, who is currently recovering from a hamstring problem and has started running again at Liverpool’s training camp in St Louis, is a player Klopp holds in high regard and he had a crucial role to play in the German’s first season at Anfield.
Klopp is not actively looking to let Lucas go - and the player is not agitating for a move either - but Galatasary want the Brazil international and can offer something that Liverpool manager will not be able to: a guaranteed starting place.

[bcolor=#ffffff]The Turkish side have been in contact with Liverpool regularly through the summer to state their intentions and it is anticipated they will return again with manager Jan Olde Riekerink has confirming that he wants Lucas over the weekend.

KLOPP - What the fuck you doing man ? don't fight it, don't fight it - let it go - be free be free !!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD !!!! Let it go MAN !!!!

Read that article earlier. Don't know if it's true or not.
But if it is...
Haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha haha hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

So what the SCM say if yet another manager decides to hold onto Lucas?

I really hope he stays if we aren't bring in a replacement.

Still the best we've got in that role and as shown can be exceptional CB cover too.

Yes he's not the greatest but he's reliable, experienced, on acceptable wages and pays DM. At the offered price of £2 5m, the only downside to keeping him is his fanbase.

Fucking hell this thread is epic! @Arn you are possibly the most absurd poster there has been on here. Good work. Now fuck off 🙂

Whatever people think of Lucas, it would be a bit foolish to get rid of him without bringing a defensive mid in.

It's exactly what I've been saying for a while now.
Lucas isn't the best DM in the world but he's the best we've got and he does his job well. Despite what others believe.

Pretty sure Klopp is going with Stewart as back up. At least he will improve.

Can't see the logic in getting rid of Lucas when we really could do with him as a backup DM and CB and for 2.5m??? Really?

Klopp clearly agree with you. It is up to Lucas and how many games he want to play. How important is it to play for the national team for him? In some games we need a DM and we must have that option.

He may improve. We don't know that. Right now Lucas is the much better player.

Would you trust Stewart to be a better backup than Lucas?

In midfield I'd go with Stewart now. He is calm, composed and has better legs than Lucas has now. Lucas is a useful backup at both DM and CB but it's time for a chaining of the guard and if you don't give Stewart time then how is he supposed to gain experience and develop ? Over the course of this season I'd back Stewart.

Errrr... didn't Klopp just say that there is no one leaving the club that he doesn't want to lose? If he goes it's pretty nailed on that it's with Klopp's blessing. The article is a load of shit.

[bcolor=#ffffff]What? Centre half in the League Cup?[/bcolor]

He was probably our most important player off the pitch together with Henderson our Captain. He is the "daddy" in the dressing room, that it what the players say about how important he is off the pitch. We missed in many games last season a defensive mid that would hold his position the whole game. One that almost never crossed the halfway line.

Do you think we would have leaked three goals with Lucas on the pitch in the second half against Sevilla? What many of our players must learn is when to make a tactical foul and to take a yellow for the team. A freekick 30 yards from goal is much better than a player getting the chance to make a play inside the box.

Many of Lucas freekicks close to our box is tactical ones something you never will agree with.
