Liverpool have been linked with FC Twente’s 21-year-old Dutch forward Luc Castaignos, and could make a £6m bid for his services with then the transfer window reopens in January, reports the Metro.
The Reds desperately need to strengthen their striking areas, with Daniel Sturridge limping out of training today with a suspected ankle ligament injury. The England man could be out for up to six weeks, and with summer signing Iago Aspas also injured, Luis Suarez is the only established and available striker at the club.
Castaignos has scored seven goals in 14 appearances in Holland so far, and looks like he’s finally starting to fulfil his talent that encouraged Inter Milan to sign him back in 2011.
His spell in Italy was fruitless, but at just 21-year-old, the striker is still young and improving.
As a striker, Castaignos can drop deep and link up with midfielders thanks to his impressive passing and technical ability. In this respect, he can be compared to Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, although he doesn’t have the physical attributes of the Frenchman.
The forward could be available for around £6m, which could prove to be a bargain if he ends up having anywhere near the impact that last January’s signings Sturridge and Coutinho have had at Anfield.
