Lovren.. Liverpool

I really want to see Ilori return and get some game time. If we are getting Lovren then 1 of Agger and Skrtel needs to be sold with Ilori as the deputy - not sure what to do about Kolo as I would want a future defender getting that time on the pitch.

Lovren could be exactly what we need.

Lovren Sakho all the way. Sakho was immense before his injury in the WC, will step up another level this season.

I like the look of Levren, I just hope he's the dominating, calming influence that we lack. Skrtel used to play well with Hyppia, hopefully he'll have the same sort of influence over him or Sakho.

Have most people read the full statement before calling him a cunt? What exactly is so out of order?

Looks like he feels the club has disrespected him and is thinking fuck them, before this latest stuff there we stories during the World Cup how Saints wouldn't answer his calls, it would be frustrating if you were in his situation, like he says the club are selling its key players and going backwards whilst Liverpool want him and have put in a more than generous bid, don't blame him for for being pissed off and speaking out tbh.

He's a Southampton player, the club which was willing to take a punt on him in the first place (Liverpool paid almost twice as much for an equivalent or arguably lesser player in Sakho). And by castigating the club, will that change Southampton's mind? Man is a total prat.

Lovren : "My head is already in Liverpool, Southampton isn't being fair towards me" - Croatian article

"When I decided to go to Southampton, many were surprised. But I went because people from the club had great ambition. They assured me of their project, the former chairman Nicola Cortese and former coach Mauricio Pochettino enchanted me with their approach. They filled me with incredible confidence. When I started to train, I realized that Southampton has a very good team. They promised to buy two more players, they bought Osvaldo and Wanyamu, they are great players. The goal was to attack European competition, at least in the Europa League."

The collapse of the system

Southampton left behind a very good season, the club has never had better results in the Premiership. However, this winter begun a variety of speculation, the departure of President Cortesea was announced.

"Even then I saw something off in the club, no one knew who would take over the club. Then to me the whole story became suspicious. I asked coach Mauricio what it was, he could not say whether or not he would remain on the bench on the project that was promised it would last five to six years: investment in the club, attacking the Champions League, bringing new players and keeping those major. Because of this, after all, I agreed to sign for Southampton. And then went the president, coach Pochettino practically already left in April, and I realized that it was the breakdown of the system."

In particular, he was hit by another situation.

"Liverpool made an offer, and the club didn't report it to me. Even after that, about the new Liverpool deals. It was not fair. I learned about the offer from other people, it really hit me and I realized that I no longer have anything to do with Southampton. Liverpool has sent an offer of 20 million pounds, and they paid me 9 million pounds, they would have made more than twice. Oh look, I'd love to stay in Southampton if the club had some ambition, if they have preserved the main players. I would not be shaken by an offer from Liverpool."

What is the situation now?

"At this point I do not know what I will do and I do not like that. And indeed it was unbelievable that a few days ago they agreed to an offer of 20 million pounds. It was in the morning and in the afternoon they said that I'm not on sale? Frankly, my head is in Liverpool. Anyway, I sent a letter to the club where I said all this I told you."

What did they respond?

"Nothing to me, just thanked me for the letter. It seems to me they want to keep me on ice, which again is wrong. And honestly I do not know who's the main man at the club right now. They're now looking for 25 million pounds for me, but I don't think they will get it. Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world. Only Real Madrid has so many fans around the globe. The last time I played at Anfield, I got the chills when I heard, "You'll never walk alone". I would like to listen to it all the time."[/article]

I would probably often agree in similar disputes, but this one is a little bit different from the usual. The club could be argued, quite easily, to be a wholly different entity now to the one he signed for, and then if they are failing to inform him of an offer which is over double his previous market value then I can see why he'd be a bit pissed (after watching so many major departures from coaching and playing staff already). Given all of that, I don't think he's said anything overly out of line, but he could have maybe kept the "head in Liverpool" bit to himself for now.

ha yeah he's getting loads of abuse from their fans . In fairness you can understand why they're pissed but if we get this lad then i hope we smash them on the first day of the season to really rub it in .

Bit of a coincidence us playing them on the first day of the season.

You're probably right about assurances given, mate, but the public statement isn't looking good at all.

Did you see his first games for France? He was in the top 10 in the performance index.
He was a beast. Varane and Sakho conceded 1 goal in the entire tournament.

Thought you was talking about his pefromances for us.

Been a monster for France, almost a different player and his passing seems to improved.

His passing has always been good though - he just looks awkward when he does it. He's actually got a negligibly better pass completion rate for the club than for France in the World Cup. He is passing a bit less often backward per game for France though.

I like Sakho - I think he will turn into a great CB, whether that be with us or for someone else in the future. Agree re: the calming influence that Lovren could potentially bring to the back line - that is much needed although I still think a lot of that missing leadership is from the GK and we need Mignolet to become a lot more vocal and get the defence doing what he needs them to do e.g. shape, pressing etc.

So much shit is spoken on this forum about Sakho's passing simply because people don't like his 'deliberate' style. I'd be far more worried if the ball failed to reach its target !

I think it's the fact that he leans back (almost like he's laying back in a recliner chair) most times he delivers a pass and has a bit of a hunched over stance when dribbling. People assume that because he looks a bit awkward and unconventional that his passing is poor. It's anything but.

Sakho is only going to improve and needs to bring all his leadership experience back to Liverpool.

Lovren looked a very decent defender for his club. Whether he actually improves our defence is something else. His dispute with So'ton is because of broken promises and a strong will to leave because he feels deceived. They are foolish to turn down a 20M pound bid and probably won't get another. That they want more for him is incredulous. Good luck with that.

People don't like him because he looks awkward and reminds them of Djimi Traore. The only similarities they have is that they're both black and left footed.
