Long distance information, give me Memphis

We're totally in the dark on what we were willing to offer.

But for the me the consistent theme is none of the big agents do much business with us.

If Mendes has a player moving to England you can be certain it'll be to Chelsea or United (Falcao, and Di Maria). I presume City are cosy with him now.

And Depay has the same agent as RVP.

Mendes et al will want to ensure their client (and themselves!) have they best deal.

We will make signings that beleive in and fit into the 'project' and have potential

No doubt..

*sigh*

So what seems to be the answer here? We're not big enough to sign the top tier players, but we can't get big without signing them, catch 22 bullshit going on

We need to sign players who aren't on the radar of the really big clubs, simple as that.

Except it's not simple, but it pisses me off that Southampton, Swansea & Newcastle manage to get it right & we don't.

Agreed. I really don't know why we made such a song and dance about trying to sign him. It always looked a long shot and we end up looking pathetic when it fails. It reminds me of when Newcastle tried to sign Wayne Rooney.

The other kid we're linked to, Ntep, looks like a Southampton kind of signing to me - in a good way. We definitely shouldn't be above trying to tap that market.

Who have we signed out of these three? Let's not invent things to slate the club for now.

And for the record, Ings would be a good signing - IF we supplement the forward line with a top class striker. I see no reason to slate the prospective signing of Ings or Milner. Both are good players who will come in and do well. But we need the 2-3 top class players as well.

I think Milner would be a decent signing. Ings I'm not fussed by. I think it would be more of the same and the type of signing that has seen us slump from comfortably top 4 to further down the table. Not good enough.

I'm not inventing things, but I reckon that's the type of signing we'll end up with.

Stories from Holland is that Manure only came in the last 48 hours to take him away from us or PSG.

Oh well - let's hope Classie will be a good 2nd place prize

Two things fuck me off about this.

1 - The whole 'We're in for Depay" shitstream was clearly fed by the club to that mouthpiece Pearce at the Echo in the days following the fucking homosexual loss to Villa. How utterly pathetic. And now look at the hack of us.

2 - We did have a chance at signing this cunt. Of course he wanted to go to United, players always want to go somewhere as their favoured destination, but doesn't mean they get to. This cunt, like Sanchez, Costa, and dozens of other real top quality players like them were sitting in a room with Rodgers at one point. This cunt actually came to Anfield and Brodge couldn't close the fucking deal. There's a trend here. He had Sanchez's ear, and got nowhere. Evidently this manager has about as much pulling power as a wet Tuesday night in shrewsbury. Remember the stories Torres and Reina told about Rafa fucking haranguing them for months on end about coming? Can you imagine what weight Mourinho or Wenger have when it comes to attracting players? And there's Rodgers fucking paedo'ing them about projects and characters and 'the way we like to work with our pressing tactically and technically'. Well, Depay now joins a long list of players who've heard that dribble, and given it the big thanks but no fucking thanks.
You can bang on about 'the committee', and the funds and the vision and all that transfer policy shite all you like Rodgers, but all these top class players are going for money that we can afford, but they're just not coming to us. And that's down to you. Look at you last year, drinking your own bathwater after the football we played all year, assuring everyone that players would want to come because of the sensational football we played allied with the Champions League to come. Sanchez chose shopping at Harrods over you and your vision. Your verbal foreplay got you a bunch of blokes from Southampton.

This manager has fucking zero pulling power.

It all came from the PSV end. There was nothing in the English media that wasn't in the Dutch papers beforehand.

The PSG interest was fabricated wasnt it? I dont doubt our interest at all.
Some Dutch correspondent on Talksport claimed we lost out in the last 48 hours.
Ryan has a point but in this case I think our only chance was if Utd dropped out and went for Bale.

Depay has been linked to Utd for a long time. Two Dutch teammates and Van Gaal. The PSV - Utd link.
It was always going that way, sadly.

We do need someone in charge who can close a deal and attract some players though.
I doubt the buck stops with Rodgers. Ayre etc need to take the blame awsell. There were loads of stories about the Salah deal were we agreed a fee and then changed the structure again afterwards.
I think we make life difficult for ourselves in several key positions at the club.

PSG interest was real but he had already turned them down in January. He wanted Premier League. We were second choice.

How very dare a club that has won the league loads of times in the last couple of decades, the champions league twice, numerous domestic cups, can afford to spend 100mill+ most summers with ease, can afford to play players 200,300, 400 grand a week if they fancy, beat us to a player that most people hadn't of heard of until about 6months ago.
What a fucking failure Rodgers is, disgrace.
Hadn't the player heard how big we used to be and what we used to do 20years ago?

Excellent post @Ryan summed it up perfectly

If we are to keep Rodgers a big name DOF is required to help bring the players to club.. Let Rodgers do what he does supposedly does best... coach the players..

Either that or bring in Klopp quick smart

I know he would say so anyhow but Rodgers said at his press conference that we were never in for Depay as we are already well stocked in that position.

Which is actually a valid point. We are well stocked.

But we were sniffing around too, clearly. But it probably never went beyond kicking the tires on the deal

Yeah I'd say lock this. Open a thread about our ineptitude in the transfer market if ye like but I don't think we need to continue this in a Depay thread.

I really wanted him here though. This isn't as depressing as losing out on Sanchez. No where close. We had more of a chance there. I felt Depay was always destined for United as soon as they moved. LVG as manager and United have a history of signing PSV players. (Stam, Park and RVN).

[article]PSV sporting director Marcel Brands has revealed PSG looked likely to sign the Dutchman before Van Gaal intervened.

He told Dutch broadcaster Omroep Brabant: "PSG were already very serious for Memphis before the winter break.

"We had reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain and I’d have said he would be joining PSG had you asked me about his next destination two days ago."

Brands added: "Only in the last 48 hours did Manchester United step up their interest and things went very fast from there on. In the end, the player decides where he wants to go and he wanted Manchester."[/article]
