Lucas is a must starter in every game until we sign a new midfielder that is a great tackler. You can moan all you want about it but as it is now he is our only midfielder that is great at it. He is also our only midfielder that have some sort of football brain. Our other midfielders work their socks off but don't have the brain to make effective runs.

Lucas is like Hamann. If you remember Hamann then you will also remember that he had a much better defense behind him and a much better defensive playmaker than Can/Allen/Henderson/Milner as partner in midfield. Hamann was also very immobile but he had the brain to compensate that weakness just as Lucas.

You can also moan all you want about the stats but he is the player that make most tackles in the league, not only this season. We haven't replaced Masch and Xabi yet. Lucas isn't a Masch or Xabi but right now he is by far our best midfielder.

Hamann is a far better player

Another Lucas debate initiated.

Well done SCM.

I usually find that when there are ongoing arguments about whether a player is any good or not, the answer is that he isn't very good and it would be right to replace him with a better player.

I didn't say that Lucas is a better player than Hamann was. I said that he is the same type of player with the same strenghts and weaknesses. We need to replace every midfielder with a better player. To be fair, our midfield stinks and that after spending £300m+ the last seasons.

In two or three years only Can and Rossiter will probably be our only midfielders that still play for us. The rest of them will IMO be sold and that includes Henderson.

Rossiter will not be around next season - he will go the way of all the next Stevie Gerrard's - go out on loan to a div 3 club and sink without trace - he hasn't got it

I spent years on the Kop defending Ronnie Whelan when dolts around me were calling him crap. Some people don't know anything. Not insinuating you know nothing obviously, but there are plenty out there.

Some fans don't understand that Lucas is the only midfielder we have that is good enough do the dirty work. I lost count on how many yellow cards he taken for the team because another player messed up. He is probably the best team player we have. He isn't playing to do anything fancy. He plays to do the dirty work so a player like Can can play higher up the pitch and our right/left back can make more attacking runs. He also play because we don't have a Agger anymore. A central defender that can make that easy quick pass to a central midfielder. Lucas is doing that now. It slows down our play because the central defender now pass the ball to Lucas and Lucas then pass the ball to Can or a wide player. Agger used to do that job.

Next in the series of stupid Lucas comparisons is the Lucas / Souness comparison.

I cant wait

Nobody could even think of doing that with a straight face. Mind you, given we've already referenced Didi Hamann, I suppose anything is possible.

Have we done Divock Origi/ Thierry Henry yet?
