Liverpool vs Newcastle: post-match gripes here

He was very poor on the ball ... 1 or 2 of his interceptions were because of his poor passes. He looks heavy - heck, in the derby, he was 'fucked' (to quote him) in a game where our team was attacking 99% of the time ... I hope he's fresh enough for Thursday, but most of my optimism is drained 🙁 Hoping for a 1-1 ...

I don't know if we'd have won with him playing 90 minutes - we should have won without him playing 90 minutes, and that's nothing against him - just against two more points dropped ... We're top 2 in that category with Everton (I do wonder if most of those points are with Klopp in charge!).
We should have absolutely won without him.
You need take into account that he just returned from injury. Of course he's gonna be a bit knackered and rusty.
But he didn't look out of sorts against Everton did he?
Right now we need him on the pitch and I think Klopp agrees.
Despite his flaws, ( lack of speed, stupid fouls, non existing offensive skills) Lucas is a calming presence on the pitch. Hence why Klopp likes playing him when he needs to take control of the midfield or to calm things down.

Btw, regarding the Villareal game. We should be worried about our defence. I really hope Sturridge and Coutinho have their scoring boots on.

For 'take control of the midfield and calm things down' one could easily read 'sits in one place right in front of the back four, moves at a walking pace, rarely attacks and takes ages to pass the ball'

But given Klopp's style of football isn't really about being calm or controlled, that probably explains why when his other midfielders are fit, Lucas can't get in the team.

You and I wouldn't have looked out of sorts against Everton ... They were POO!

The first half was almost too easy for us today and when they got their first a second was almost inevitable. Klopp's made a big difference to a number of players but collectively we still lack the composure that stems from having real inner strength.

I do find it strange that we had lost control of the midfield but after Lucas replaced Allen we had full control of the midfield again. He calmed things down. Panic over.

If Lucas had been so shit then he wouldn't have started against Everton. He bossed the midfield in that game but of course it wasn't Lucas playing great it was the opposition playing shit......I heard that one many times before.

We drop points......Lucas is shit.

We win and Lucas play very good.....the opposition didn't turn up.

Lucas is our best defensive player by some distance. In some games we don't need him but in many other games he must play.

Using words like Composure and inner strength is often just a more polite way of saying not 'they're not good enough'

Mad how a player as bland as Lucas inspires such devotion in some and sheer ugly hatred in others. I don't think I'll ever understand it.

I think the reason is that we haven't won much since we signed him and some people must blame someone for it.

As long as a player give 100% and always put the team first then I don't blame him if we lose games. It is then down to the manager and our owner to sell him if he isn't good enough. It is they that build the team. It is not down to the player(s) if we don't win anything. Then it is down to our owner and the manager but that is my opinion.

I've defended Firmino but his problems are absolutely fuck all to do with match fitness.

His pass selection, accuracy and reading of the game were woeful in the Derby and they were poor today, excusing his trundle around the pitch in both fixtures

Recent performances would suggest they're good enough...they just don't do it often enough and that's because they're weak as piss under pressure. We're a team of Jimmy The Whirlwind Whites.

Hahaha! Those comments about Firmino just highlights the impatience our players deal with.
Great in January? He was fucking bossing it until his injury.
Shock that a player needs time get his match fitness back again after injury.
He wasnt that bad either.

Ming was horrendous. Desperatly need a new GK.

Shocking stats;
Mignolet has now made the most critical errors in the PL this season (6)
Also made the joint most since the beginning of the last season

He's been back a fair few games now and has been shit in every single one of them. His touch at times is fucking terrible. He really needs to sharpen up.

Not getting the criticism of Stewart. I thought he was pretty good again. Faded a little 2nd half along with the rest of his teammates but overall he was fine.

As for Mignolet, I'm not even going to go there. He was due(overdue) one in fairness.

Firminiho is like Luis Garcia. He'll save the day on many occasion, and be brutal just as much.

Mignolet *has to go*. We can't waste another season because of him

Mignolet being fucked off should be number 1 priority in the summer, ahead of trying to sell other deadwood. He's fucking atrocious, birds would be jealous of how much he flaps around, useless piece of shit!

Firmino is far to inconsistent for my liking. The ability is definitely there, but just like my "pet hate" Lallana he just doesn't show up for us enough.
This is usually the part when I say something like, "with a decent pre season bla bla bla", but this summer is going to be quite hectic for some of our players with the Olympics, Copa America Centenario and of course the Euro's.

Lallana shows up way more often than Firminho

Nah. Strange how quickly people forget. Firmino was bossing it prior to his injury.
9 goals and 7 assists in 23 starts (6 sub apps) in the league, thats very good.
Obviously needs to get back to his best but the talk of this all happening in January is clueless. Its been a good first season when you look at it overall.

He'll be even better next season. No doubt about it.

Some of the comments regarding him being shit and what not are obviously silly but this approaches the other end of the scale.

All things considered, Firmino has had a decent start to his Liverpool career and I quite like him as a player but he needs to improve markedly to guarantee himself a first team spot. We've seen some nice touches, a bit of nice passing and thankfully some goals that demonstrate a poachers instinct but it's all been very sparse.

At present he, much like Lallana, is a luxury. We've been lacking in pace, goals and real attacking threat for the best part of two seasons now and it's only really with the return of Sturridge proper and the emergence of Origi that that's begun to change. We've been far too reliant on Coutinho (and sadly even the pace of Moreno) to conjure something up.

The summer we need to bring in some attacking talent that will force some of the current lot to discover that simply "working hard" and offering a few nice touches a game is not enough to get in the team.

The last time a NE side clawed back from 2-0 the equaliser was scored by a paedo. Should defo have a look at Colback's phone.

Quite. The truth is somewhere in the middle, which makes it easy to assess his quality. Average.

Firmino looked alot better leading the attack, he's also looked like he's been struggling to get going after his injury. He doesn't strike me as much of a playmaker, which makes it difficult to place him when everyone is fit, he's too much of a luxury player.

I was pleased that Klopp was under no illusions as to how tricky they'd be after that game at City. Just a pity the players weren't equally on their guard. The gloom this weekend for me is mainly the thought of those barcodes staying up. Benitez won't get enough money to do what he wants to do, but he could make them boringly effective, and maybe win a cup, which would make the geordies absolutely unbearable.

Liverpool have conceded 19 shots on target against the bottom half at home. Migs has stopped 8 of them from going in the net.

We really need a new keeper.

Klopp said last week that he is still carrying an injury and isn't one hundred percent fit.
I like to think it is this that has caused his dip in form.
I am however heartened that Brendan has started slagging him off again so am anticipating a man of the match performance against Villarreal.

I'll add a more general comment, Coutinho is more like Luis Garcia, very wasteful in possession considering all the good positions he has the ball in, saved by the fact that once in a while a shot isn't wayward.

Been like that for a while, different from when he came, then he expressed excellent vision and kept playing all these lovely weighted throughballs.

At that time, there was better movement in front of him, with forwards available for those through balls, inspired by Suarez.
