such a strange game ...
we were all over them and the game should have been over at 3-0, but we were so sloppy with the ball and continually put ourselves in bad positions.
I really don't get this season so far ... Last year, every game felt like were in control ... This season, I don't feel like we've been in control of one game in its entirety ... just patches ...
Oh well, as I said after Sheffield, better to be talking like this after wins than after losses or draws.
Beat Leicester next please.

Gomez was shit. Is Matip back for the weekend?

Salah looking like a proper miserable cunt again

What a great 3 points. I warned about this lot earlier in the week, they're this season's Ajax and they will qualify from this group. Yeah we weren't at our best and Gomez had a shocker but you have to give great credit to Salzburg.....we'll realise what a great result this was after we see Salzburg v Napoli.

I thought that was a great game. A really hungry team with quite a few talented players came to Anfield and gave us a scare. I thought they would. And we beat them and we deserved to. Again, we did what we had to do. I'll start complaining when we start losing.

You're blind. Salah was absolutely brilliant at times today. Some of his passing was horrendous, but twice tonight he showed those wizard feet we haven't seen since his golden season and he scored two goals. I really think Salah could come into breathtaking form.

Wasn't talking about form, just his general expression

He looks like he doesn't find any joy in playing football at all, even when he plays really well and scores goals like tonight

That's great, but it fucks our team when we lose possession for no reason. His short passing has always been scattershot, there's times when he needs to be sensible.

We were better last season when Matip came in.

debatable - the team was better but as a defensive unit, we were as good.

Sorry mate, two poachers goals but missed a very easy chance and gave up possession more than 10 times easily. We should have won that game comfortably, and he was one of the many players who just forgot how to maintain possession etc ... I wish I could expect more but I know this is Mo, hopefully for better but as we saw last year, 'for worse' can cost us big time.

Great game for the neutral - we need to get back to what made us great last year ...

Gomez was poor today, but he wasn't the only one.

Hendo was poor, and he seemed to switch off once we went 3:0 up. It was his mistake that led to their first goal, and he was shit until he was subbed (too late)

Virgil had his poorest game for us, and had part in their 1st and 3rd.

Gini was a ghost and left Fabinho to fight the midfield battle alone.

The full backs left too many holes.

All in all we almost made a mess of a game that looked like it was won after 36 minutes. We won and that's the important thing.
We have to improve and we will.

One of the things we learned how to do last year, was to coast a little bit. There's no sign of that this year.
I think last year we played still a little on the underdog spirit...this year teams are comming at us 100 percent, eveyteam we play wants to be the first team to beat the European champions...we are having to dig deep even when we have a healthy lead... but I agree with you we should learn how to manage games better than that.

With all due respect LTW (you've always been one of my favourite posters) but "Salah can cost us big time" are you fucking kidding me? What Salah has done over the last few seasons is nothing short of amazing and even when his form dips (as it has it present) he remains a constant danger. I think some fans have got too used to winning and have started to see flaws where there aren't any.............Salah is pivotal to our success and there is no "for worse". xx

I’ve just seen the Salzburg coach sprinting down the touchline after they scored, joining the celebrations. He looks like a plonker now

Well Klopp doesn’t look pissed anyway! How important Matip is to this side was on view tonight. Joe Gomez is fucking wank.
Nah he's not in general, I think it was a horrible team to come back in when you haven't played for a while... Salzburg are a a fiesty team with lots of willing and clever runners. The telepathy wasn't there today but it will come....
Only caught the last 10 or so minutes but why the hell were we pressing for a 5th? No game management. Just kept giving it away and inviting a very game Salzburg to keep running at us.
Yep I love our midfied but sometimes they lack intelligence.. Milner helped to be honest though.

Souch sloppy passing at times I felt we were being overly adventurous with the passing, instead of the simple pass, Trent and co sometimes looked like they were trying Hollywood flicks and long balls to often... Salzburg capitalised on those moments
If we defend like that on Saturday, Vardy & co will give us a hard time.
Yep. Glad we got this out of our system. Maybe we can adjust and refocus...we need to be better in and out of possession. Spurs played well yesterday in moments and still shipped in 7 goals. Leciester have the clinical players who can take advantage of that. I really don't want to see Brendan Rodgers raise his Shankly fist in celebration lol

Yep that's another element. Salzburg are actually a decent team... I think they will beat Napoli.

Too many people worried about nothing, like I said after the Napoli loss - this competition gives some breathing space for our players to make those mistakes that cannot afford to make in the PL because of that massing cunt Man City. Last season we won the competition by also losing games all the way to the final. The main thing tonight was that we won the game despite their comeback, and the experience of what happens when you put your foot off the pedal will now remain with our players for the rest of the competition.

Also stop being so harsh on Gomez, he is not a shit player and to be honest the mistakes that led to the goals was about losing possession further up the pitch by careless passing not just because he had a bad game because for the most part he had a good game, against a good youthful side who had pace up front - so I do wonder if Matip was playing if he would have significantly improved our defensive play - given that all the shit happened in midfield and Matip not being as fast as Gomez.

I am worried by Salah - he scored two, but was at times too easily wrestled away and crowded out ,just like he was facing in the PL in the last two games. The two goals came from being at the right place at the right time with some space in front, but I do worry if it is an emerging pattern where he cannot be so effective up front on the wing because of the heavy marking he is facing. Also his passing is pretty shit these days.

That was a great game to watch. Very impressive Salzburg team and as the good doctor said, they can quality from this group.

Thought Gomez had both good and bad moments tonight. Clearly rusty, but his pace saved us a few times.
I want Matip back for the Leicester game mind.

Some great goals tonight. Robbo and Mane’s were brilliant.

And obviously Alf Inge Haaland had to score..

Oddly, it seems, I thought Gomez had a decent game and did lots of decent covering.
My lad, who I was watching the game with, thought the same.
Opinions, eh!

I also thought Virgil was well below par.

I agree. He was obviously rusty but I thought he did some things really well and his pace helped us out a lot at times. He needs games to get back to the level he was at.

I think overall everyone is being super critical. We won and responded to a poor 20 spell.

Gent held Napoli which is a big result for us.

Bet Gent home and away and we’ll be laughing.

Unpopular opinion it seems but I thought VVD was very poor for all three goals.

Ah - the count saw the same game as me then, on Virgil - I actually got worried watching him today, not because he had some bad game, but he looked exhausted, and not because of this game but just generally - like bordering on illness. He is playing nearly every fucking game for us since he joined, I know most of us think he is superman but even he got a cold in the show Smallville for being overworked.

What's wrong with this picture? All of this I am in complete agreement with.
