Liverpool v Huddersfield Match Thread

You think it's an overnight thing?
A good manager would try to identify what formation suits the team better. Jesus Christ we're a fucking shambles.

So he learns and decides he needs to change the way he plays or the system he needs to use. Sometimes that needs the right personnel. It ain't Jan yet

I don't think Modo will be happy until we get Benitez back as manager, and Lucas as the DM and Captain.

If it means he fucking shuts up, it might be a price worth paying.

Pretty much, if the same player had won us the CL. Pretty much like Bellamy round 2 but with a CL win.

That doesn't make sense... I'm not getting the Bellamy link either.

I'd say you're not that sold on getting Rafa back and are just being contrary more than anything.

Top four and cup win = he gets another season.
Miss top four and don't win cup = he should be sacked.
Newcastle finishing ahead of us = Get Rafa.
Even if we had a strong first 11 getting top 4 is no longer so easy. There are 6 very strong teams all fighting for top 4 now.

Newcastle won't finish above us and will be lucky to finish in the top 10. They don't score enough goals.

I respect the hell out of Rafa, 'contrary' to others opinions of him.
I also rate him more than Klopp.
How much progress have you seen since he took over?
Look at Man U, title contenders after 1 year with Mourinho? Or is it 2?
Look at the progress Chelsea has made after switching managers and City.
We've regressed and everyone here seems to be fine with it. Let's just give him another summer or whatever. Like shit will change. Klopp has shown me enough to understand that he can't organise a defence. He sacrifices defence for attack, his style leaves large gaps in midfield that other teams habitually exploit. It's not even funny any more.

Forgot to do my ratings! How remiss, I do apologise.

Yer archetypal "game of two halves", Ron. The first was a dreadful, turgid affair, with the crowd quiet and the Match Thread a firestorm of " Sack Klopp!" gibberish (admittedly that was mostly poor old Modo). A missed penalty hardly improved the mood, but Huddersfield were hardly any threat, so the second half improvement saw them collapse utterly, as we came out of our shells and started really playing.

Mignolet (6) No real opportunity to repay the laughably misplaced faith Klopp has in him, as he didn't have a save to make.

Gomez (6) Wasn't that busy defensively, so tried his best to be influential in attack, with mixed results

Moreno (6) Slightly underpar vs his recent displays; he was involved in the first goal, but will be disappointed with some of his passing and wasn't as adventurous as usual.

Klavan (5) So obviously not good enough, even if he wasn't supposed to start. Had a dreadful first half, looking clumsy and slow (because he is), but he did improve slightly, even though everyone was glad he wasn't overly tested as Huddersfield's passing, confidence and threat dwindled away to nothing.

Matip (5) He's been fucking shit almost all season, so it was a relief that he had little to do, apart from stretching his legs to reach one hopeful punt. Is possibly the shittest header of a ball I have ever seen. Such a weak string of piss in the air, and a fucking head like a 50p piece.

Milner (7) After the run-around he got from the faster, fitter Spurs midfield, this was much better. Milner took the lead in several attacks and his workrate, passing and delivery from wide was impressive. Good display from dependable vice-captain.

Henderson (6) Awful, insipid and creatively moribund first half, but far more lively and positive in the second, as Liverpool took complete control. Some nice runs and one-touch passing.

Wijnaldum (7) Scored his first of the season - another goal while playing at home. Has never scored a goal away from home in the Premiership. Sounds remarkable, but really isn't. Played with far more energy and ambition in the second half, after a long period of doing fuck all in the first. Extra point for the goal, as is standard.

Salah (6) Seemed to be running on empty in the first half, and missed a penalty with a hesitant, poor effort. Was far more like himself in the second half, causing Huddersfield multiple conniptions with his effervescent skills and pace.

Firmino (7) Typically pedestrian in the first half, he was far more influential after the break, at LAST scoring a Premiership goal, and also nearly creating another.

Sturridge (7) Showed his quality in front of goal with a delightful finish for the opening goal, and should have had at least one more. Still has that lovely close ball skill and touch, but he is never going to be the player he was without that explosive burst of pace that seems long gone.

I can understand wanting Klopp gone. I don't agree, but I can understand it.

I can't understand the fixation with Rafa, like it's a straight choice between him and Klopp. There are other alternatives.

Rafa has his qualities but he also came up short ultimately at Liverpool.

If Klopp sacrifices attack for defence, Rafa sacrificed attack for defence - had he done so a little less (before there was nothing left to lose), we might have won the title.

Has Rafa changed? Has he learned from his mistakes?

When Klopp goes, I'd rather see a new face come in. Rafa would have to do something special elsewhere to make me change my mind.

But as said before, most importantly, I'd like to see better people in place across the board at the club.

You know what's really not funny any more? Your pathetic and increasingly desperate attempts to dress up your various obsessions in spurious disguises. You'd be against any manager who isn't Rafa even if he won everything in sight.

Cause at this point we've gone down the new manager route and none of them have even come close to what Rafa did during his time here, I'm talking bigger picture here.

Rafa sacrificed attack for defence and we won shit. I'm OK with that.

... After hoping he'd succeed at Inter and even Madrid, and thanking Chelsea for their idiocy, I now have decided I'd like Rafa to go back to the championship so Modo can only update us about Lucas.

Modo in 2029:

"I see a certain ex-Liverpool DM is still bossing it for Gremio Old Boys - showing that you don't need pace when you have tactical discipline"

Modo in 2059:

"It's a tragedy that Rafa wasn't even considered for the vacant Liverpool job last summer. Even though he died three years ago"

I'm not getting the Mourinho love here ... since Mourinho has been at United both he and Klopp have won the exact same number of points. And yet United have spent about x4 as much in transfer fees. It's mystifying, doubly so because they had such an easy start to the season, let's see where we are come end of January/February (we have a run of about 10 very winnable games in those months), I bet there's not much between us.

Same amount of points, but Mourinho has won a League cup and UEFA cup, and we're both playing in the CL this season.

And United are above us in the league and will finish above us in the league.

He's spent plenty, yeah. I wish we had.

"Bigger picture" my hairy fundament. You'd still be talking Rafa even if we'd had to to build a new trophy cabinet under somebody else.
