Liverpool v Huddersfield Match Thread

... After hoping he'd succeed at Inter and even Madrid, and thanking Chelsea for their idiocy, I now have decided I'd like Rafa to go back to the championship so Modo can only update us about Lucas.

Shit, forgot my weekly Lucas update. Well Lazio won and they're currently third in the Serie A. Lucas started and owned.

I fucking love it when you remind me about Lucas.

Lucas doesn't play for Liverpool anymore! Ahahahahahahhahahaha! Oh thank God!
It still sometimes doesn't feel real that he's fucking gone. Ahhhhhh, always cheers me up.

Thanks Modo!

I don't think FSG would go anywhere near Rafa as he's not afraid to point out that he's not getting what he's been promised by owners and I don't think they would like that at all. Personally i thought the club acted prematurely in sacking Rafa and we've gone backwards since then.
I do like the idea that if Klopp should be sacked or leave when he's had enough that Rafa could come back but I doubt it will ever happen. And it certainly shouldn't happen unless things get a lot worse under Klopp. For me he's got at least until the end of the season to put things right and then we'll see where we're at.
As far as sacrificing attacking play for defensive solidity or vice versa I'd prefer a manager and a squad capable of the tactical versatility that means you could do either given the opposition and the circumstances of the game and I don't think Klopp has shown that versatility yet with us. Attacking football is great but if the team and tactics aren't better balanced then you don't win a great deal.

Modo's wrong about almost everything, as we all know.

However, disregarding his amusing - if tedious - Benitez obsession, one thing he is correct about is that "style of play" and tactics - attacking/ defensive/ whatever- are irrelevant.

All that matters is us winning trophies. Who cares how we do it?

Same amount of points, but Mourinho has won a League cup and UEFA cup, and we're both playing in the CL this season.

And United are above us in the league and will finish above us in the league.

He's spent plenty, yeah. I wish we had.
We had a far tougher EL than they did - and they still almost balls it up (Celta had an open goal 5m out in the last minute of injury time to go through - and blazed it over), very lucky indeed to get through to the final. LC - bah, it's for the kids up to the semis and you know it. That aside in our final we lost to City on penalties and theirs they beat Southampton. It could easily have been Klopp 2 Mourinho 0 but for the vagaries of chance. Of course I'd like us to have won them but let's not pretend they indicate any Mourinho superiority.

I'm not convinced they'll finish above us. They might, but I think it will be as close as last season.

"almost"
"lucky"
"vagaries of chance"
"could easily have been"
"we lost on penalties"

The wide and varied vocabulary of the consistent loser.

Rafa sacrificed attack for defence and we won shit. I'm OK with that.

We won shit at the beginning of his reign.

What did we win once he’d gotten all the control he wanted and pursued his team building?

Maybe he needs a DoF, eh?

No, don't just use the vocabulary I used to try to substantiate your PoV, because it's a cheap shot that doesn't.

It's not like Rafa, to struggle against a minnow.
How did we do against Burnley this year? OH and at home as well...
BTW, how did we do against Burnley last year?

Finally who's got the better squad? You start comparing our team to Newcastle and you're in trouble buddy. Their squad is super shite, we're just shite.

Yeah, and those points were made about Milner not taking the pen, and if it was me saying them I stand by them

In regards to who is taking the penalties, thats a valid point.
Salah was considered our best penalty taker after that Egypt goal, for some reason.
Not sure why Milner ever lost his penalty duties given his record. He should be back in again as our preferred penalty taker.

Clarification, I'm comparing Rafa to Klopp.

Rafa playing Crouch and Voronin as wide players away against Reading is still my stand out moment of Rafa madness.
Just let it go mate. He shouldnt come back, and we shouldnt even be talking about replacing Klopp at this stage.

If that's your most vivid Rafa moment then I feel sorry for you.

I don't think it is. I'd imagine it would be something like winning the two trophies at the start of his reign, before his slow slide into madness. It's not that people have an overriding memory that's completely bad, it's just that people thank him for the good times, but when faced with the proposition of taking him on again, they rightly remember the baffling moments and flaws that he had.

As said anyway, why are you acting like Rafa is the only option in World football? And why are you using him as a stick to beat Klopp with? This is more about the potential of Benitez being available, than any real sort of misgivings with Klopp. You're just jumping on the opportunity because we've fucked up in the Summer and Rafa has kept Newcastle's heads above water. It's myopic and typical Modo. Always got to have someone to hate if you've got a personal favourite in a similar role. See Hendo/Lucas, Gerrard/Lucas, Rafa/Klopp, Coutinho/Lallana, etc.

It's a retarded game.

I'm "acting" like he's the only option because I'm done trying out different managers. We know what we get from Rafa and how high his ceiling is. The man KNOWS Liverpool. His family still lives in Liverpool, why shouldn't we give him another chance? Especially with "better" owners.
Regarding the hate, it's because they weren't that good in those positions. I believe Lucas is a better DM than Henderson, I think Coutinho is twice the player Lallana is, and I also thought Gerrard wasn't that good at DM, I wanted him moved further up the pitch.

We shouldn't give him another chance because it will cost us a lot to pay off Klopp, we'll have a two year 'transition' period where Benitez tries to bring in players he wants to play the way he wants to, he'll get frustrated with the owners because they won't spend the same as everyone else, we'll have leak and counter-leak as the owners and benitez slag each other off, Andy Gray will reappear talking about zonal marking again, net spend and Paul Tompkins will rise up to swallow the internet and I'll have to kill everyone in the entire world.

Or in shorthand, it won't make us any better because we still won't be able to compete financially with at least three other clubs.

And 'regarding the hate' we know your opinions. You give them every chance you get. And it's fine to have those opinions, but it is beyond tedious to be reminded, apropos of nothing, of those opinions in EVERY FUCKING THREAD.
