Maybe if we pay one of the door firms in town we can get alerted when Mignolet goes into a bar and one of us can leg it in and smash his hands to pieces with a hammer.

I thought Ibe did really well, and there were a number of occasions where his good work was not rewarded by good movement in the box. That time when he outmuscled his opposite number on the byline only to be left with no options (Benteke, ludicrously standing immobile on the edge of the box behind a gaggle of Arse players) was an obvious example, but there were others. I thought he had a really good battle with his opposite number, who also had a good game. I thought Ibe was great actually. He didn't rape his opponent every time, and he made errors, but his work-rate and his willingness to keep running at them with the ball was great to see.

I kinda agree, he definitely had good moments but for the first 25 mins of the second half he was having no success trying get down the outside of Monreal. Monreal anticipated correctly where he was going each time.

I'm guessing thats what he was told to do. But when he finally cut inside and had a pop (blocked for a corner) the next time he went outside he had the jump on Monreal.

Overall i think wingers get judged harshly, as if they should never lose possession and beat the full back every time. Ibe is doing fine and he gives the team some width and pace. Thats part of the reason why we could score 3 against Arsenal.

Think the crowd got to him a bit and he looked like didnt want to make any mistakes. He lost the ball a few times and started overthinking everything.
Thought he was very good in the first half.

He's a young player and this sort of stuff will happen. You have to laugh at the reaction in the match thread saying he's just not any good etc.
Fully agree. He was excellent in the first half; and any conclusion that he's no good would be a bit over the top. What was infuriating abt his 2nd half display was that he kept attempting the same trick more than a couple of times, with the same end product. Holding the ball just a bit too long didn't help either, as our Centre forwards would then be out of position by the time he released the ball.

Boromir: You don't just get the better of Ming, the kid's a politician. ... Not with the 300 could you do this. ..:banghead:

Yeah, I think Monreal had a brilliant game, but Ibe gave him a battle from first to last. He did have a frustrating patch, but as you say, probably finished the stronger in that little tussle.

Agree with the general sentiment re Ibe, but still seems to me like he's missing a trick or two.

His attempts to beat egrets or go past them are to dribble at them and hope the defender makes an error, shows him an opening, or hoping he can catch them flat footed. Good defenders don't give you that, and Monreal had him in his pocket for most of the night. He needs to be more proactive rather than waiting for an error. Add a trick, learn some moves, mix it up, and make the defender react to you, not the other way around.

He's got all the right attributes, and is still very raw. Just get the feeling he needs a trick or two.

Yeah. Monreal is a cracking player.

He's a much improved player. Wenger's record on spotting defenders is distinctly patchy, and for quite a while I thought Monreal was shaping up to be another of his misjudgements in that area, but he's come on a lot this season. Gibbs has talent but I reckon Monreal is better defensively.

Is he? I've never noticed him to be anything other than competent and that Gibbs was always rated higher than him?

He's been mediocre at best until this season, when he has been very good and kept Gibbs out of the side. But he's 30 already, so won't have long left at this level

I've been impressed with him every time I've seen him mate. Doesn't be many wingers that get the better of him, he's also very good on the ball and tends to pick the right pass more often than not.

He's in my fantasy football team so must be ok.
