Liverpool related transfer speculation

Yeah there’s a Lidl in Larne… but I now have more than enough booze to drink through before I fly home.

Inexplicably… I’ve been drinking Newcastle Brown Ale recently.
Well that explains why you think northern Tayto is edible😉

Just tell the world your gay why don’t you?

Get over your hazy fear. Be an Irish Viking.

Go to a decent shop. Sainsbury’s do Sierra Nevada. There’s also marks and fucking Spencer. Both shops do decent reds if you want to fork out over £12 a bottle.

You can ignore me after having 6 pints in that queer London and downed 4 beavertown neck oils on the train home. I’m off the on board shop to buy more beer.

The wife won’t be happy.

I just don’t like hazy pale ales / IPAs and NEIPAs - haven’t had a good one in years - I just like a solid west coast style pale ale or IPA but none of this dank shit or overly citrus or piney muck.

Sainsburys means going to Carrick… fuck that (although I drive past it today).

I never even thought of booze in M&S!!!

You’ve wasted all your time there? M&S is the wine venue of the middle class.

Newky Brown is fucking shite. I’d rather drink boddingtons.

Do you want a flake with that love?

I didn’t say it was good 😜 - I just bought a 4 pack, because I’ve been trying loads of different beers.

Enjoyed some Brooklyn lager - I’m tending more towards largersvtfesexdays.

I always like to see what sort of shit is popular over here rather than Australia - I mean the sane shit is “popular” - Asahi, Peroni, Heineken - I like that there’s more Czech Oilsner choice - Budvar, Staropramen, Urquell - most of them, bar the latter, aren’t as common over here.

Also seems to be a trend for “unfiltered” larger variants - like Stella and Czech pilsners - not seen them in Oz yet.l - and this keg system where there’s a whole pile of what looks like 15-20L kegs which is interesting.

Also… something controversial for my fellow Nordies…. Harp lager isn’t as disgusting as I remember and having a few Smithwicks and Bass brings back memories from 35 years ago.

Smithwicks makes me think of a Dublin stag do when I’d had enough of Guiness.

If you were to offer a pilsner id take Staropramen.

Brooklyn beer is all watery shite.

I remember an old boy who I used to work with that was a serious drinker,
He told us one year that he had given up drink for Lent and was only having Smithwicks

Harp from a bottle isn't nearly as bad as its preceding reputation in my limited experience

Yeah… next time - M&S presents a different challenge - Larne isn’t posh enough to have an M&S - so it’s Glengormly, Antrim or Ballymena for one of those… or Belfast.

I feel like there might be a decent market for quality wine bought online and delivered in Norn Iron - but there probably isn’t - because people will just buy cheap shit from the supermarket.

It’s different in Australia - big Supermarkets aren’t allowed to sell booze - so there’s no aisles filled full of booze - there’s usually an attached store that sells the booze.

@MomoWASright - you’d love the company I work for - they’re like mid-sized supermarkets filled just with booze - there’s sheer volume of wine and beer.

I had some Budvar dark lager the other day.

I actually didn’t mind the Brooklyn lager for something smashable.

Easy to smash a 4 pack in 45 mins when you’re watching us play like shite.

Is Larne in 1723?

I also like to chill the glasses in the freezer sometimes…

… and I told the missus off for pouring Coca Cola into one of my beer glasses the other week!!! - there are specific glasses for that.

I also have specific whiskey and gin glasses!!!

Glassware is a thing for me!!!

I have 3 glasses. A glass tanker etched with me and the boys, an Azvex 500ml heavy bottom and wide top then my favourite Liverpool brewing company one which has a chip in. Maybe I need to butter up Woland for a new one.

You know what - I posed a question on the Liverpool Brewing contact sheet as to whether they shipped to NI as I was thinking of ordering some to be delivered to my sisters while I’m here..

… never received a reply…

(To my knowledge)

Yea,
But for Harp?

I probably have a dozen beer glasses at least of all shapes and sizes.
I even paid for some of them.

Spur of the moment thing - wanting to buy any Harp… then I did.

Didn’t actually see any bottles - although that’s another trend I noticed over here with bigger 500ml cans and bottles.

Very few bottles in Australia these days outside the big mass produced beers and 500ml cans are practically unheard of.

Disneyland for alcoholics is how I like to explain Dan Murphys, Liqourland, First Choice etc to foreigners 😀

It really is… well Liquorland & First Choice isn’t 🤣🤣.

I think you get it in the US - but I’ve not seen booze sold at the scale the likes of Dan Murphys stores do anywhere in the UK.

Even before I worked for them, I used to love going to their stores and checking out the different wines and beers - it was instrumental in my desire to learn more about, particularly wine.

I don't drink beer but those pretty aisles could tempt me. Cough.

Damn. I read that as liquorice-land and my first thought was 'I'm moving there!

My philosophy is when you return to your childhood/teenage home, you should go retro & reminiscent. I was at me mum's a couple of year's back and started mixing myself "light & bitter", that I hadn't drunk since I was about 17. Fucking gash, like, but brought back memories.

In fact, when I was back in Liverpool for my daughter's 21st I had a pint of golden, for old times sake. Also fucking awful
