Left back - who would you buy?

A player I like is Davide Santon, who can play on either side as full back. Strangely this is on his wiki site:

He is currently set to join Liverpool FC in a player plus cash deal which will see Javier Mascherano move to Inter.

Dossena was decent going forward when at Liverpool however it was defending that he found challenging which is a problem considering he was playing as a full back.

How very interesting Stanners

Stanton is a good young player who is highly regarded at Inter.

Will be surprised if Inter are willing to give him up.

I just had a look at google, we were linked with him when Dosenna went, at £15m.
Inter would have to do us a great deal for Mascher if we wanted decent money for other areas of the pitch as well as a left back

regards

Isn't he mainly a right back? Good player though from what I've seen.

He can play either Mark, as far as I can remember. He shackled Ronaldo about 18 months ago when they played and Ronaldo mentioned that he was a great young player - he played Left Back that day with Maicon on the other side.

How about case plus Stanton, Mancini, Chivu?
[/quote]

No way. Jimmy's well past it.

Wiki isn't the best source though, since anyone can go in there and write something. I know one Liverpool fan who edited Remys page a couple of days ago, and had to go back and edit. Hasn't signed yet obvs.

Santon would be a great pick up, doubt Inter would want to lose one of the hottest defender prospects in Italian football though.

Rafa would probably give us Santon for Mascherano in the blink of an eye. This is going to be very interesting. A young highly rated full back for the world's premier defensive midfielder? No contest!

Roy's comments on Mascherano are designed to let Javier know whose Boss. Make no mistake, he be let go but on our terms. They want Mascherano desperately and we need a fullback. Cash plus a very good player.

Good times ahead for Roy especially if he can re-invest in the team. This could turn out to be one of our best transfer windows ever!

Rafa doesnt do the transfers at inter, there's little chance of that happening

they're waiting for $$$ from City for Balotelli (sp) then will give us that for Mascherano.

What about that Buchtmann bloke that was in our reserves? Wasn't he touted as one of the next big things?

I've been out of the loop a bit lately so no idea if he is still on our books?

Moved on from there as well I think.
He has gone to a German side from what I recall.

edit: beat me to it binny

Santon would be one for the future but if Insua goes theres no point in signing an inexperienced player to replace him. It would completely defeat the purpose of leaving him go!

I stand corrected then. Cheers.

Bad news, I'd have loved him at Anfield. He was absolutely superb before his injury last season.

Atletico Madrid have agreed a fee with Deportivo La Coruna for full-back Filipe Luis.

The Brazilian defender is rated as one of the finest left-sided players in Spain and was a likely candidate to play in the position for his country at the World Cup in South Africa.
However, the 23-year-old suffered heartbreak after breaking his fibula against Athletic Bilbaoin January and despite returning before the season's end, Lyon's Michel Bastos was given the role.

Filipe has made over 100 appearances for Deportivo, impressing Atletico boss Quique Sanchez Flores sufficiently for him to offer 12million euros for his services.

Filipe will sign a four-year deal at the Vicente Calderon after undergoing a medical, with Depor making the sale to pay off some of their debts for other players.

Advanced

"We believe there are only a few details left to be sorted out," Depor president Lendoiro said on arrival at a Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) meeting in Madrid.

"Until there is something signed, there is nothing we can say (officially), but let's say things are very advanced.

"I imagine he (Filipe) is already here (in Madrid). The idea I have is that he will have arrived (to finalise the move)."

His sale will allow the club to pay off the reported 4million euros owed to midfielder Sergio Gonzalez in unpaid wages.

Failure to pay that debt by 2nd August could have seen the Galician club punished with relegation to the Segunda Division.

Deportivo also owe Atletico close to 2million euros for the transfer of defender Ze Castro last year and that debt should also be wiped out thanks to the sale of Filipe.

Rafa does give input:

Inter coach Rafael Benitez has opened the door to Mario Balotelli leaving the club as Chelsea cut across Manchester City's path for the striker. Benitez has joined the chorus of voices as he holds the door from closing. The Spaniard's words, aware Balotelli is negotiating with City who are in Italy to close a deal, suggest he is relying on Samuel Eto'o for next season. The coach also admitted he would be powerless to stop Balotelli from being sold as he steps away from talks.

He'd cost loads more than the 2.5 we flogged him for. Was silly that really.

12million euros is a good deal. Only 23. We should have been in for him.

That's just weird really.

He did however have a scoring touch on him now and then.

Strange player through and through.

How much did he go for,?..I cant remember

Atletico Madrid stocking up left backs? What abt their captain Antonio López?

Nigeria defender Taye Taiwo is close to completing a switch from French Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Marseille to Spanish side Atletico Madrid, BBC Sport understands.

Taiwo who has been hankering on a move away from Marseille in search of first team football is expected to finalise the deal on Wednesday.

According to the player's agent Michael Coker, only minor details between both clubs need to be sorted out.

"I'm presently in Madrid now and everything is almost done," Coker told BBC Sport on Tuesday.

"I have been in a long meeting with the club director [Jesus Pitarch], and they are excited knowing everything is almost sorted out.

"We had little challenges at some point but right now everything is back on track with the player and clubs involved."

The 25-year-old joined Olympique Marseille from Nigerian side Lobi Stars in 2004 and has been a regular at the club until last season.

He won the French double with Marseille last season.

Unless Felipe is being deployed at LW?? I don't get it.

I don't like Lopez at all. I have an irrational hate towards him. He is a dirty cunt.
