I wouldn't mind N'Zogbia at the club.

Lazy journalism.

ROBERTO MARTINEZ insists Maynor Figueroa is staying at Wigan after claiming he's better than Ashley Cole.

The Latics boss has had to deal with speculation about Liverpool and Stoke chasing the Honduras international and accepts he'll leave, one day, for a top club.

But there appears little chance of the defender departing this summer, even though his agent stressed it was highly likely, after he received a glowing tribute from his club manager.

"Maynor is among the best two left-backs in the Premier League," enthused Martinez.

"With the number of games he has played for Manchester United, Patrice Evra is a similar player to Maynor in their physical characteristics.

"Maynor can become better than him as he has the ability to be the best left-back not only in the Premier League but in world football.

"I'm sure he will play for one of the great teams but I do not think it'll be in this transfer market.

"There's no doubt he can play for any of the giants of England, Spain or Italy.

"Maynor still has room for improvement with Wigan and to leave before that may be a wrong decision.

"He has power, quality and a professional attitude so he deserves only the best.

"It's not true Liverpool made an approach [despite what his agent said]," he told the Honduran press.

"I always keep him informed of everything. I just want him to rest mentally and physically before the new season."

... and this week's award for Most Hyperbolic Statement in the Press goes to....

I like Figueroa and would be happy to get him but Martinez is on something good if he thinks that.

Oncey was right.

I'd rather Fig than Konchesky - but now we've signed Aurelio, our next LB is going to have to be for the quota, which is shit, because all players who tick that box are fucking rubbish.

Think it's pretty obvious our leftbacks for next season are Insua & Fabio. You would never risk Insua if he was about to be sold.

Insua might improve a fair bit from last season, he's only young.

As much as I worry whether he'll ever be god enough, i do think a myth of utter shitness has developed around him that he doesn't fully deserve.

Part of it is disappointment, after spending a season watching him fail to live up to his early promise. The saving grace could be that he DID show promise when he first played a few games for us. Hopefully a new start will help him get back on track. I just wish I were more confident that he can.

Agree completely; he'd been decent before so when he was terribly slow on their Aian tour I just thought he needed match fitness.

To still be talking about it 12 months later is very worrying.

Nope, he's just shit. We need to sell him and buy a proper LB who's not fat or made of glass. Tell Insua to accept the next offer he gets or we lock him in a store room with no food for the next 12 months.

He may or may not have a weight problem. But he has certainly lost a bit of pace and he seems incapable of jumping as well. We should move on...

It's shocking that we haven't gotten rid of Insua. We desperatly need a new left back, and can only pray that Fiorentina come back with a new offer.

Believing Insua is good enough for our club is a very sad state of affairs.

And to think the stick Riise took from some people on here. Unbelievable.

That's true, but I suspect Squiggs' point is that - even at his worst - Johnny Rockets was better than Insua was last season.
