I think Gerrard can be a good national team manager – usually you don't need much more than motivation skills for that job and he has those. My cautious prediction is that he will be a success with Poland, if he gets the job.

He's certainly led by example and inspired his team mates at times as a player, but in general I think his personality is as divisive as it is motivating. He clearly did wonders motivating the Rangers' players – they were suddenly very tough to beat even by technically superior teams in Europe. I think he is a very similar type to Blokhin (former Dynamo Kyiv Ballon d'Or winner who became the Ukraine national team coach) – a difficult personality, but can do very well in a limited type of a job.
