Surely its time to offload him? He is at best an ok player but we need good players now. Allen's level is Swansea not for a club challenging for top 4.

Yep, I rated him before he came, but he hasn't improved at all, if anything he is less dynamic than he was with Swansea.

He's a good player, but he'll never be a great one, and we should look to sell for £11-£12M.

Lucas is worth keeping.

Yeah, he's a good player and he's shown at times he can be great at that role in the middle, keeping things ticking over, but he doesn't really excel at any aspect of being a central midfielder, other than being ok at a number of parts of his play and great at turning his way out of trouble and getting the game flowing when we're playing well. When we're not playing well he's fairly mediocre and struggles to make an impression either physically or technically. Like Lucas he's proven he can be good in a winning team when he has players around him to drag the team above their level, when that's not there he's exposed for what he is, a steady player.

He's one of those lads who's clearly a good player but he just hasn't proven to be a good signing, you could say the same of players like Aquilani.

I'd still keep him this season, he has got that talent it's just whether or not he can work himself back into the state of top form and not allowing it to be interrupted.

I'd prefer him to stay and play in front of the defence when Ilaramendi is unfit/unsigned

I should think he feels a bit sidelined. Only handful of decent games since arrival, injuries not helping, a faithful Manager skating on thin ice and a disinterested fan base. Hard to see him flourishing here. Will he get enough games?

I'm a big Allen fan but I've no problem with him losing minutes to Milner and Can this season. They are ahead of him in the pecking order obviously.

I don't think Allen got a run of games in his preferred position so we never really got to see the best of him. He'll excel again at another club. He is a good player. He's showed only flashes of that for us though. Take that Man City game for example where he literally did not put a foot wrong. He's a solid pro and I'm sure he'll games next season. My thoughts on Joe Allen have not changed since his last thread where I likened his time here to Nuri Sahin. so I'll just post it again.

I think Şahin suffered from some of the problems that Joe Allen also faces in our team. They both want to be the 2nd central midfielder. Not the out and out defensive one or the attacking one, the 2nd midfielder of a midfield three if that makes any sense?
Allen is a bit screwed in our set up. Lucas is better than him as the DM. Henderson is better than him as the 2nd midfielder and a host of others are better than him as the attacking midfielder of the three.

Şahin played as the attacking midfielder for us for a bit in an effort to pigeon hole him into the team. At Dortmund he was more of a deep lying play maker. With us he was asked to get into the box and link up with the forwards. Joe Allen was also asked to play this role when he first arrived.
