the same people had no problem whatsoever with the demands owen was placing on the club when I would have fucked him off and made a fortune on him. marvelous, allow a player to drag their heels, allow a player to dictate terms because we're fucked without them, the laughable thing was he left for a pittence ANYWAY because the club were scared to put their foot down.

you don't conceed to player demands, you open that door you aren't ever going to be able to close it. so, I couldn't give a flying fuck who agrees with me (never have to be honest) masher's contract negotiations should stop at the player himself, if he wants to put demands on the club and the manager then he should be fucked off.

Gerrard did the same thing. Didn't he put in a transfer request? I know we received a bid from Chelsea. It's the way of the world now, we have to live with it. What Shankly would have done in the sixties is irrelevant now. Shankly was up with the times, just as he would be now.

Those of you who've replied to neil so far are missing the point. He takes every opportunity to talk Masher down because he thinks the contrast bigs up his poster boy Alonso even more. The guy's like a dog with a fecking bone over it. Don't encourage him.

its got fuck all to do with masher I'd say the same thing if torres said it but torres has got too much class to make out right demands to the club during contract negotiations.
I've heard torres say he wants the club to strength but it always comes across humbly.

Wow how can *any* Liverpool supporter not love Mascherano? His enthusiasm, workrate and will to win are infectious. He's fast becoming my favourite player.

In a pig's ear you would. Where were you recently when Nando said H and G had to find more money to bring big name players in? Nothing "humble" about that. You're on one of your hobby horses again, is the top and bottom of it.

Benitez expects deals for duo
Mascherano and Reina set to sign before the end of the season

Last updated: 5th March 2010

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that he expects Javier Mascherano and Jose Reina to sign new contracts before the end of the season.

Midfielder Mascherano was understood to have held talks with Barcelona last summer and it had been rumoured that a deal was in place which would see him join the Spanish and European champions at the end of this campaign.

Reina has been involved in ongoing discussions with Liverpool's hierarchy for a number of months, but it was recently speculated that the goalkeeper was unhappy with his club's disappointing form.

Benitez, though, is confident Mascherano and Reina, who has arguably been the Reds' Player of the Season, will agree new deals within the next two months as negotiations continue.

The Reds boss said of Argentina captain Mascherano: "I was talking with him and his agent the other day and it is true Javier is happier.

"The conversations were very positive. When you talk with Javier he is very settled and happy.

Commitment
"Everyone knew about some clubs (being interested in him) but talking with us he was fine."

Asked if a deal would be struck before the end of the season, Benitez added: "I think so."

The Spaniard, who takes his team to Wigan in the Premier League on Monday, also said that Reina's commitment to a new deal was not in doubt.

"Pepe (Reina) is another key player and it is 100% he will continue with us," Benitez said.

"Everything is very close. I think we will have news about Reina and Mascherano very soon."

Mascherano was thought to want to move to Barcelona in order to link up with his close friend and compatriot Lionel Messi, while Reina's superb form has seen him be linked to a number of top clubs around Europe.

Torres has often come out and expressed our need to improve the squad. He has even mentioned Silva and Villa as possible candidates in the past. Masher didn't exactly deliver an ultimatum either Neil.

seems loads are people are happy for players to make demands and hold the club to ransom. if shankly were plying his trade now you have to wonder what he'd make of player power.
Niel , you are looking at a long past way of life mate.
Nobody is holding the club to ransom, Maschers expectations and desires are no different from any of the other top players, and I bet all of the sought similar assurances before committing.
Life is different from the sixties and seventies, players move around top clubs, and differnt leagues because they can, he comes from Argentina FFS not Scotty Road.
It seems to me, in the way he plays that the Little Chief is as committed as any of our players and more than most.

Haha, Great picture Pepe looks like Uncle Fester

The best players in the world want to know they're playing for a club with ambitions of being the best. Rightly so. Masher is saying something he wants as part of his personal ambitions AND with a concomitant desire for Liverpool to be a top club.

Spider is talking fucking nonsense once again.

Has Neil reached the earth's core yet?
I think Ryan, Dreambeliever, FasterBlade and Marquis should seriously consider relocating.

whatever, I expect certainly principles from players and staff if that makes me nieve and old fashioned then so be it.

“The reality is that I am very happy at Liverpool. I want to know what the club’s plans are and then we will see if, at this moment in time, I can renew my contract."

seriously, that doesn't annoy anyone? anyone at all? fucking hell, how times change.

Just calm yourself by repeating your soothing mantra;

'favourite attacking full-backs in world football, A to Z'

what do you think I've BEEN doing? 😉

Quick... somebody suggest that Hamman & Mascherano would have been the perfect CM partnership...Neil will blow a gasket

Reading the line about the clubs plans and if he can renew at this time I suspect he wants reassurances that Rafa will still be here before signing on. If we can't give that reassurance he might want to wait and see who his replacement is.
