Is the end finally nigh for Lucas?

Is this at me? Coutinho and Lallana started probably. Lovren is as culpable as anyone for yesterday, so the one constant in our recent defensive success is Matip. Ergo, when Matip is missing we struggle, which tells us what we already know, some of our other players aren't good enough.

We missed Matip, Lallana and Coutinho, each have been instrumental in helping their respective area of the function.

I wouldn't use the Leicester game as something to defend Lucas with, anyway.

I'm not sure why you have to turn these debates into a competition between pet loves and hates.
It wasnt directed at you, but Lucas was the only change and we didn't lose.
This time around he gets a thread dedicated to him.
Seriously, there is nothing new to discuss regarding Lucas. People are just clutching at straws trying to find a sacrificial lamb. It's funny how the no 1 Karius fan is trying lay this on Lucas as well.

For the record, I'm not pinning the defeat on Lucas. But as other have pointed out as a CB without Matip, we failed as a unit. Lovren I also called out as not good enough for a title contending side, but he's at least a recognised CB by trade. I'd make an argument to ditch both of them if it was the summer and start again. As much as I love Milner, he's not our long term LB option either.

I don't think Lucas should be a CB, unless he has Matip alongside him, he's too slow and too short, at least Lovren carries an aerial threat. It's an opinion, not scapegoating.

Lucas has many admirable qualities, but the fact is that he doesn't know how to tackle. Benitez made him into a defensive midfielder but this tackling problem means he will always be a liability. I would like him shipped out at the earliest opportunity so that he isn't an option any more.

I keep seeing this repeated, as if it's that impressive. He's been through 5 managers?! For a reason?!

OK, what reason?

And big fucking wow, he's been here for 5 managers because they keep getting sacked and if he was actually any good, he'd be like one of the very many superior players who joined and left Liverpool in the time Lucas has been here, because other clubs would have wanted to sign him, or we would have actually won something with him in the side, and they wouldn't have been sacked.

He's fucking shit
You're so fucking extreme.
Nobody spoke about him being a top class player.
He's no Alonso or Mascherano, but neither is he a Spearing.
Managers didn't offload him because he's useful.
And he's been very useful this season yet again.
We didnt lose the game because of him. That much is so obvious from watching the game, it boggles the mind why a thread like this would be made after that game.
Lovren played poorly, Hendo left his position constantly to leave the defence exposed, and the team defended very poorly at set pieces and when under the cosh.

He deserves a little more respect than some of the shite spouted his way is all I'm saying. And I'm not even a big fan of him.

Questions have to be asked about Klavan. We were told by Klopp that he was a very good CB and will be competing for a first team place. Now he's not even 1st reserve CB even with Sakho being cut out. Lucas may not have been directly at fault for the goals yesterday but we would have won that match with Matip playing so we certainly cannot ignore it. We shouldn't be playing a defence made up of 50 percent by midfielders. It's just common sense. It can look fine when we're dominating teams but under any sustained pressure its been shown to completely disintegrate. Lessons should be learned from this one.

I'm beginning to worry about Klopps ability to build a solid defensive unit. He seems to have a worrying Rodgers-like tendency to just keep changing things around in the hope that he stumbles on a winning formula through blind luck.

And he was lucky enough to win Bundesliga twice. I am really happy we have such a lucky guy in charge.

Most of you know like many others I think Lucas is a really nice lad but a very overrated and limited midfielder. So stepping in on occasions in midfield is one thing but for the love of God he's not a centre back.
Some of you are waffling about none of the goals being an individual fault of Lucas one Einstein even said he was MOM for fucks sake. He was all over the place like a mad woman's piss on Sunday his positioning was dire. However as I said he's not a CB he's actually done OK on occasions and got away with it. If we were on the bones of our arse with CB injuries I could almost understand it - but we are not as one or two have mentioned we've got Klavan. An experienced competent CB that has looked very good every time he's been called on he plays the cup games , he even looks good with fucking Lucas alongside him so why was he not played? I love Klopp but it's arrogance and madness. As I said we've got away with it before but the luck ran out this week. It wasn't the biggest single factor but it was the most avoidable one and one that, in my opinion, cost us three points.

It has been so long, and the likes of Modo and Arn have grown so old in that time, maybe their waning recollections of what football was before Lucas have passed out of all existence.

Thing that I really don't get is that he has never been exactly a Brazil regular and I don't think has played for a fairly shit Brazil team for around 4 years. We have never had to fight off Barca, Madrid, PSG , City , Chelsea advances and could not even practically give him away to Turkish teams the last couple of years , the hyenas of European leagues, but somehow a fairly vociferous significant minority have always rated him and still do. In fact several people who's opinions I respect seem to be delusional

He's been wanted by Stoke and Galatasaray.
Maybe Inter when Rafa was there.
Thats about it.

Loyal servant, top bloke but a very average footballer. Typical example of what standard we thought was fine in past seasons.

He's not good enough and will be off after this season.

The year is 2027. Liverpool manager Steven Gerrard has decided to hold on to Lucas instead of letting him go on a free to West Brom. Due to injuries Lucas has found himself starting the opening 7 league games. Liverpool currently find themselves in 9th position, some 8 points off 4th.

So that's Lucas's 10th Liverpool manager then?

I think it is probably down to the misguided need to be intellectual and having some superior ability to analyse football. So they set up a system of measurements and analytic standards which allow them to discover new things like "lucas objectively contributes to the team", and then argue with lesser people who have not the benefit of such lofty standards of analysis. It's much like financial analysts at banks who make stupid valuations of companies so that they can compare notes and jerk each other off at their consensus. Most normal people would just look at the company and decide whether or not it is shit.

If you just look at Lucas, it should not take an average human being more than a couple of games to conclude that he is shit.

Too bad average humans like Dalglish, Rafa and Klopp decided he was good enough.

Really? Matip and Lovren are obviously first choice when fit, the rest of the side picks itself more or less with the injuries
